Publisher's Summary

A brilliant, hilarious one-off novel in the Skulduggery Pleasant universe, from number-one best-selling author Derek Landy.

This time, the bad guys take the stage. Tanith Low, now possessed by a remnant, recruits a gang of villains – many of whom will be familiar from previous Skulduggery adventures – in order to track down and steal the four God-Killer level weapons that could hurt Darquesse when she eventually emerges. Also on the trail of the weapons is a secret group of Sanctuary sorcerers, and doing his best to keep up and keep Tanith alive is one Mister Ghastly Bespoke.

When the villains around her are lying and scheming and plotting, Tanith needs to stay two steps ahead of her teammates and her enemies. After all, she's got her own double-crosses to plan – and she’s a villain herself…

    "Horrible Reader Ruins Book"

This is a short story that focuses on Tanith Low and it advances the Skullduggery Pleasant series. It should be read prior to listening to Last Stand of Dead Men but not listened to as an audio book as the reader, not voice actor, does not do any of the voices adequately. Imagine a women with a high voice and a British accent doing Billy-Ray Sanguine’s Texas accent and sounding like a southern belle. There is good humour in this story, but reader ruins it.

    "Great intermediate book"

A bit of an interruption in the series of "Skulduggery Pleasant" and it was good. A lot of people have complained that with male-dominated cast, the female narrator didn't really fit, even thought it was done because of the story being told from the point of view of Tanith Low. I must say, it did not irritate me at all. I thought it all fitted rather well and that the female narrator did a great job. The book is full of dry humour, action and plot twists, characteristic to Derek Landy. So hold on to your hats and if you haven't tried yet to listen to the Skulduggery Pleasant series, then you are missing out!

    "wrong narrator!"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Narration should have been more in tune with the skulduggery narrations.
This was read as a young child's book -beware adult Derek Landy fans

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator had a patronising voice, high pitch made this irritating to listen to.with the skulduggery books set in Ireland and narrated with Irish accent why not this one?Yes, I know it's about Tanith, but....it's from the world of Skulduggery.I found myself not listening to the story at all and eventually just turned it off.

    Any additional comments?

I got the kindle version and loved it, so if you can stand the narration you may enjoy it, but I recommend that you preview the voice first

"Not as entertaining as the Skulduggery Books prope"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Despite being "from thee world as Skulduggery Pleasant" (of which I'm a great fan) this book is not up to the standard of the mainstream Skulduggery books. It's almost as if the book is aimed at a younger audience than the the other books. I'm generally not a fan of spin-off books for many of the reasons I didn't enjoy this book very much. The humour was not of the usual calibre- but I acknowledge that the humour of the books is mostly due to the excellently created characters who didn't feature in the book.

What could Derek Landy have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

It's almost as if the book is aimed at a younger audience than the the other books. The humour wasn't up to the usual calibre and the plot was fairly weak- although I recognise nothing monumental could happen without upsetting the main storyline.

Which character – as performed by Tamaryn Payne – was your favourite?

Strange to listen to a Landy book read by a woman! I assume she was picked so the character of Tanith could be performed convincingly but in what is a male dominated list of characters I'm not sure it worked. Tanith was the only character that seemed right. It can't have been easy to read for the male characters as most of those are described as having very low gravelly voices in this and other books- a fair attempt but the sound of characters such as Ghastly Bespoke were almost comical. A fine performance under the conditions but not nesesarily a good choice of speech actor.

Could you see The Maleficent Seven (From the World of Skulduggery Pleasant) being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

No. I'd love to see the rest of the Skulduggery books as films but I don't think the film companies will be investing in this spin off- unless the other films did phenomenally well at the box office!

    Any additional comments?

Bit over priced considering it was so much shorter than the other Skulduggery books.
