Publisher's summary

Thousands of years ago, fairies and humans fought a great battle for the magical island of Ireland. When it became clear that they could not win, all of the fairies moved below ground, except for the 8th Family, the demons. Rather than surrender, they used a magical time spell to take their colony out of time and into Limbo. There they have lived for decades, preparing to exact their violent revenge on humans.

Now the time spell is unraveling, and demons are beginning to materialize without warning on Earth. If humans were to find out about them, all fairies would be exposed. To protect themselves, the fairies must predict when the next demon will materialize. But in order to do so, they will have to decipher temporal equations so complicated that even a great brain like Foaly can't understand them. But he knows someone who can: Artemis Fowl.

So when a very confused demon imp appears in a Sicilian theater, Artemis is there to meet him. But he is not alone. There is someone else who has unlocked the secrets of the fairy world and managed to solve complex mathematical problems as only a genius could. And she is just 12 years old.

Artemis Unbound

I had wondered just how Artemis, Butler and Holly (not to mention Folly and Mulch) could be engaged once again in planet saving mayhem. Book four seemed a fitting book end, but it seems that the glut of fan mail Eoin Colfer received changed his mind.

So Artemis is at it again, and this dimension is not big enough to hold all of the action. Imagine Demons, time travel, life and death action! This installment is a thrill ride, and more mature then previous endevours. Colfer is allowing for his readers aging along with his characters, as a parent, I appreciate that.

I loved this book, listened to it in three days, and can't wait for my son to finish it so we can discuss it in great detail.

Caution: Some of the scene depicted may be too graphic for younger sibs to hear/read.

This could be a stand alone novel

This is arguably the best book in the series, hands down. It is worth going through the series just to get here. But go no further.

Not My Favorite

Any additional comments?

This installment of Artemis Fowl, is not my favorite, but it has not put me off the series completely. I really can't put my finger on what I didn't like, however I know that it was the dulcet voice of Nathaniel Parker that secured the finish.

I'll read at least the next book before I decide whether to finish the series or not.

Update: I have finished the series and would recommend it to everyone.

Demon Time

A great way to introduce another type of characters in the book with a strong appearance.
