On the way they meet hobgoblins, kelpies, yarthkins and elves - not the enchanted sprites one would expect but fallen angels who steal human children for pets. It is the year 790 and the world is caught between belief in the old gods and Christianity. What Jack and his companions do will decide the fate of both religions.

"Tolkienesque adventures, filled with magic, danger, and humor, will appeal to all fantasy fans." (KLIATT)
Ms. Farmer's storytelling and viivid characters, demonstrates her skill. It leaves you wanting to know what happens to Jack, Thorgil, The Bard, and the rst of the gang in the future. Well done!
why haven't these been made into major motion pictures? They are filled with new thoughts. An imaginative blend of history and fantasy. The characters artfully change for the better, and some for the worse.
In chapter 5 at about an hour and eight minutes in the narrator says "shil" about to say shield maiden when it skips ahead an unknown amount of time. The characters are acting differently because of whatever happened in the time it skipped. I deleted the book and redownloaded it and it still skips at the same time.
I love tales of Jack and his adventures and the narrator is amazing. The only thing that bothered me about this recording was that it skipped twice. It didn't seem like it skipped a lot but it was a little disappointing. Other than that this recording was great!
