She likes living in France, chasing butterflies and being stroked the wrong way. She doesn't like straying too far from home. Publisher's summary
Hilda is a small, speckled hen. She is brave and very single-minded. When she hears that her aunt has just hatched five baby chicks, she is very excited, and can’t wait to go and see them.
There is a problem; however her aunt lives five miles away. How will Hilda ever travel all the way to her farm? But she has her heart set on getting there, and goes out to hitch a lift on a rubbish lorry, a fire engine, a scooter and even a steam roller!
At first she is not very successful, but she keeps trying, because when Hilda makes up her mind, nothing and no one can stop her...
A heart-warming story from best-selling author Jill Tomlinson, whose books have been hugely popular for nearly 30 years.
Told in clear, simple language, they are ideal for young listeners who can identify with the baby animals and their adventures. The Hen Who Wouldn’t Give Up is an enchanting tale, read by Maureen Lipman, which will appeal to any child who loves animals or who is determined and resourceful.

Story
The plane is jam-packed. Every seat is taken. So of course the flight is delayed! Flight attendant Allegra Patel likes her job—she’s generally happy with her life, even if she can’t figure out why she hooks up with a man she barely speaks to—but today is her twenty-eighth birthday. She can think of plenty of things she’d rather be doing than placating a bunch of grumpy passengers.

Story
Kidnappers grabbed Jenna in broad daylight, right in front of her children and their horrified classmates. Her family was issued an insane ransom demand: $25 million in cash and jewels, payable by the end of the school day, otherwise they’ll never see her again. As Jenna’s mother scrambles to gather the money, detectives Mo Butler and George Ortega follow the trail of the kidnappers, which will lead them through a sordid landscape of jealous lovers, broken dreamers, and twisted schemers. Great story but deceptive as it is not a 2for1.
My daughter loves the story of “the hen who wouldn’t give up.” But I was disappointed, because this story was advertised as a two in one- an otter and hen stories combined. The photo of the story itself is of an otter, actually. But the only actual story we got was “the hen who wouldn’t give up.” I would recommend any and all stories by Jill Tomlinson, however, we were really disappointed that we didn’t get a two for one deal on this audiobook.

Totally delightful
Would you listen to The Hen Who Wouldn't Give Up again? Why?
Fantastic narration, good positive messages for kids, and clever enough for adults to enjoy.
Which character – as performed by Maureen Lipman – was your favorite?
Hilda the Hen
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I rarely have that opportunity. But when it was over, we went right back to the beginning and started listening to it all over again...
Any additional comments?
The cover is misleading: this book is ONLY The Hen Who Wouldn't Give Up (The Otter story has to be purchased separately)
