When a baby escapes a murderer intent on killing the entire family, who would have thought it would find safety and security in the local graveyard?
Brought up by the resident ghosts, ghouls and spectres, Bod has an eccentric childhood learning about life from the dead. But for Bod there is also the danger of the murderer still looking for him - after all, he is the last remaining member of the family.
A stunningly original novel deftly constructed over eight chapters, featuring every second year of Bod's life, from babyhood to adolescence. Will Bod survive to be a man?

"Thrilling, elegant and joyously macabre. You will love it to death." (Holly Black, author of The Spiderwick Chronicles)
I was enraptured with the impeccable and talented narration and knowing the author was reading his own fantastic funny and touching story gave the listening journey extra intimacy! Thanks so much Neil for sharing both with us highly recommended escape into fantasy.
Bought this based on recommendation by Tim Ferriss. Too much like a kids book. it was well read out and performed I think it just wasn't what I had hoped for. More something I would have enjoyed when I was 10 years old. especially after Tim raves about it.
The story takes the reader on a wondrous little journey and is written well enough to keep you glued. However, it's very Neil gaimanesque in nature and that might put some readers off.
number 1 !!
Silac, read the book and you'll know ;)
it will be forever be my number 1 book !! i'll never get tired of reading it over and over.
A beautiful and absolutely captivating book, made all the more enjoyable by the performance by Neil Gaiman. There is something truly wonderful about hearing the words from the author himself, it brings another level to the story as you are able to hear it just as it was intended to be when it was written.
I will miss Bod and the inhabitants of the Graveyard enormously, and have no doubt I'll be relistening to or rereading this book at some point.
Neil Gaiman at his best I loved listening to this tale. And again in the second listening with my daughter (7) when on the road in the car. Neil has great characterizations for his characters and being the author shows in the intimate way the tale unfolds.
Absolutely recommended! The story is beautiful, this is truly one of the best books by Neil Gaiman. And he is an amazing narrator..
Absolutely the best!
Moving, Haunting, funny
Narrated magnificently by the author who you feel truly lives in his characters. Its a book with all the elements - mystery, humour, fun. Its about growing up and friends and loyalty.
No, but now am searching for everything he has written and narrated
Wanted dead or alive....or is that alive or dead?
please please do yourself a favour and listen to this book. we listened with our 10 and 12 year old and we all LOVED it.
"Great adult/young adult book"
Loved the story, quite dark for a childrens book. My critism is I don't like music on the audio books. Sometimes the narrators voice grated on me. But glad I bought this one.
This is a wonderful story, and very well narrated by Neil Gaiman himself. It seems advantageous that the author is reading it, as he knows exactly how all the characters and names ought to sound, and he understands his own phrasings. Bod's adventures while growing up in a graveyard are both imaginative and exciting. I would thoroughly recommend this audiobook
This is marketed as a Young Adult book but it is also a wonderful adult fantasy that had me lying awake hours past my usual sleep time to hear the ending. It is read by Gaiman himself, really well, and it means that you know that the interpretation of the characters is correct (something you cannot always be sure of). A terrific listen.
"Just about entertaining enough to keep listening"
I was disappointed by this book after reading the all the rave reviews. I found it to be boring and predictable - the 'twists' are painfully obvious, and it felt a bit like a poor man's Harry Potter. Probably ok if you're around 12 years old, but it lacks any qualities that make it worthwhile reading for adults.
I loved every second of this audio book.
the story is gripping and Neil Gaiman is a fantastic author and narrator.
I read it and loved it a couple of years ago. Even better listening to it. So unusual.
outstanding adult fairy tale different a real interesting read I would not hesitate to recommend it
"A fantastic story, for adults and children alike!"
Having read the Graveyard Book itself, I loved listening to this audio version narrated by author Neil Gaiman. Highly recommended!
I confess to being a Gaiman fan, I am rarely underwhelmed by his work, and I certainly wasn't with "The Graveyard Book".
I first read it 3 or 4 years ago then recently got ther audible version to play in the car to keep my 6 and 8 year old boys entertained on a long journey. Their attention was captured from the first paragraph and didn't waver throughout. (Even though they found it rather scary in parts, but not too scary). I also was hooked again, partially thanks to Neil Gaimans narration which was perfect in tone. I suppose being the author he would be more aware of the rhythm of the book and nature of its characters. I found it suited how I remembered the book perfectly.
The story itself is full of fantastical creatures, some of whom behave as we would expect and others who buck the standard " horror " or "fantasy" norms. Typical Gaiman.
Adventure, friendship, loss, conflict, and growing up are all explored. By the main character "Bod" but also by his extended family in the graveyard.
A great read and an excellent listen!
This is a beautifully written, wonderfully read, gripping story. Kept the whole family entertained on a very long car journey.
