Publisher's summary

The evil Shadow Lord is plotting to invade Deltora and enslave its people. All that stands against him is the magic Belt of Deltora with its seven gems of great and mysterious power. When the gems are stolen and hidden in dark, terrible places throughout the kingdom, the Shadow Lord triumphs and Deltora is lost. In secrecy, with only a hand-drawn map to guide them, two unlikely companions set out on a perilous quest. Determined to find the lost gems and rid their land of the tyrant, they struggle towards their first goal - the sinister Forests of Silence.

Love the books, but hate the music at the end of each chapter.

I love the books and I enjoyed how Ron Haddrick read them. The only thing I didn't like was the music at the end of each chapter. I don't mind music at the beginning or end of a book, but having it all throughout it just disrupts the flow of the story. It wouldn't be so bad if it was good music, something short that matches the feel of the story. The music is different almost every time so there's no feel of it being theme music for the book. It's usually very weird and more annoying than pleasant to listen to. Sometimes it started playing before the chapter was finished so it was hard to hear the last sentence or two that Ron Haddrick was reading. Other times it played for too long, especially when the chapter ended in a cliff hanger and you really wanted to hear what happened next. I listened to the whole first series of Deltora Quest with my family and we all were annoyed by the music throughout the books. It's really too bad because it deters us from wanting to listen to them and I actually really enjoyed the audio books otherwise. Hopefully they fix this because these really are great books.

These books should be made into a movie trilogy

These books should be made into a movie trilogy. In the same vein of Lord of the Rings.

As grand as I remembered

I loved the story. The narrator has that perfect old whimsical voice. The only criticism I really have is that the narrator isn't really good with women voices, but it is pretty easy to overlook.
