The Ersatz Elevator: A Series of Unfortunate Events, Book 6

Like the previous audiobooks in A Series of Unfortunate Events, there is nothing to be found in this narration but misery, despair, and discomfort. This time, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire encounter a darkened staircase, a red herring, some friends in a dire situation, three mysterious initials, a liar with an evil scheme, a secret passageway, and parsley soda.

Publisher's Summary

Dear Customer,

Like the previous audiobooks in A Series of Unfortunate Events, there is nothing to be found in this narration but misery, despair, and discomfort. This time, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire encounter a darkened staircase, a red herring, some friends in a dire situation, three mysterious initials, a liar with an evil scheme, a secret passageway, and parsley soda.

I have sworn to record these tales of the Baudelaire orphans so the general public will know each terrible thing that has happened to them, but if you decide to listen to something else instead, you will save yourself from a heapful of horror and woe.

With all due respect,
Lemony Snicket

What the Critics Say

"Tim Curry knows just how to deliver Snicket's brand of alternately dry and over-the-top humor. The voices Curry creates are perfect." (AudioFile)

    "Very predictable"

As ever with a Lemony Snicket book this features a lot of humour and some clever word play. But this time the plot is nothing to get excited about. The book relies far to much on the formula of the previous five in the series; we meet the comedicaly unsuitable guardians that parody some element of society which the authour finds distasteful (in this case trendy city types) and wait for the baddies to turn up in rubbish disguises.
Things improve when the children investigate the mystery of their kidnapped friends but it's all a little bit stale.
To make things worse, there is a stupidly obvious 'red herring' at the end of the story that children and adults listeners will tumble from a mile away . The next book is much better.
