Story
Funny Bones tells the story of how the amusing calaveras - skeletons performing various everyday or festive activities - came to be. They are the creation of Mexican artist Jose Guadalupe (Lupe) Posada (1852-1913). In a country that was not known for freedom of speech, he first drew political cartoons, much to the amusement of the local population but not the politicians. He continued to draw cartoons throughout much of his life, but he is best known today for his calavera drawings.

Editorial reviews
Bob Barner's The Day of the Dead is so much fun! This story, both Spanish and English, follows two children on this day of honoring their ancestors. Rita Moreno handles both languages naturally. Her voice is a warm whisper that will make kids smile. Under her voice, traditional music keeps up the celebratory tone. Beginning readers have the option to listen to this audiobook with page-turning sounds as well. At the end of the story, the author speaks about his experience writing this story and sings about this special holiday. This bilingual celebration is entertaining and educational for kids from all backgrounds.

Story
The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.
