In the imaginary kingdom of Prydain, Princess Eilonwy must leave her friends to go to the Isle of Mona for training as a proper princess. Because Eilonwy has magical powers, she is sought by Achren, the most evil enchantress in the land. Shortly after her arrival on the Isle of Mona, something sinister and secret befalls her. Eilonwy's loyal friends, Taran, the Assistant Pig-Keeper; Flewddur, the bard; and Prince Rhun, her intended husband, realize her peril and set out on an exciting and terrifying mission to rescue her. Great listen!

When you hate characters you know it is well written! Enjoyed this third installment to the Prydain Chronicles. Loved the character development of both the main characters as well as the secondary characters. The story flowed nicely and kept the reader invested till the end, not while never-ending cliffhangers but with a compelling story and plot.

Much better than I remembered

I have been a huge fan of THE PRYDAIN CHRONICLES for most of my life, but dismissed this book as fluff, not up to the standard of the rest. This time I realized it is a subtle shift from adolescent adventure to accepting adult responsibilities, just as it is for our characters. And I LOVE that.

Excellent adventure!

I first read this series of book when I was 13 and 14 and recently I introduce these book to my children who are not avid readers. Both my daughter and son found these stories so enticing that they couldn’t wait to get to the next story and wished there were more. The Chronicles of Prydain are so thoroughly engrossing that now as a 49 year old I have enjoyed them again Lloyd Alexander’s books are a joy and I highly recommend them

Keep going! Prydain is great!

I liked The Book of Three and The Black Cauldron better but this is still a great story with a lot of fun plot twists. I love the narrator. He's one of the more talented narrators I've heard and that's saying something. I do wish Doli had been in this story but Prince Rune is a fun addition. I haven't read these books in 20 years and I'm excited to continue the series.
