Publisher's Summary

ALA Schneider Family Book Award-winning author Wendy Mass offers this tasty treat of a tale sure to appeal to any listener’s sweet tooth. The Candymakers follows 12-year-olds Logan, Philip, Daisy, and Miles as each tries to invent a candy even better than the Oozing Crunchorama. But with these contestants—who can detect chocolate by touch and lift 50 lbs. of taffy as if it weighed no more than a loaf of bread—it’s going to be a close race.

    "I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!"

I love this book. The first time I listened to it was when I was about 12, I am currently 15 and still love it. It's such a cute story. Iv listened to this it at least 15 time. I'm not exaggerating in fact that's probably an understatement of how many times I've listened to it. I HIGHLY recommend this book!

    "Fun and Fantasy"

Another excellent book on the Sunshine State list that I enjoyed listening to with my 11-year-old daughter and she read along with the print version. It was challenging for her because, at 450 pages, it was the longest book she had ever read. But the story was a pure delight as it was told from the perspectives of the four main young characters. This provided some repetition, which was helpful in terms of comprehension. The author's imagination as she described the candy factory infrastructure made the reader/listener want to jump into the book and join in the fun. A fun book that teaches a lesson.

I gave this five stars because my child loves it. She is seven and it was hard to understand the writing method used, but once she understood, she was hooked. Now she's requesting more books to listen to in the car. Yay!

"Slow at first, but then we couldn't stop listening"
If you could sum up The Candymakers in three words, what would they be?

    Sugar, Teamwork, and Intrigue

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Candymakers?

When we discovered someone was a spy.

    Any additional comments?

We loved that we got to hear the story from everyone's point of view.

If you could sum up The Candymakers in three words, what would they be?

My daughter loved this story and the idea of listening to it while she followed along in the book. She really liked the reader's voice and pace.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The scene when the boys are spending the night in the candy factory.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The ending when the main character did not win the contest and the boys all become friends.

    "The Best Book EVER🍫"

My family listened to this book on a road trip from San Fran. to LA. We all loved it from a 10 year old to a old man. But, we did crave some candy... 🍬🍭😅

    "Great book!"

This is one of my favorite books ever!!! The structure is amazing! The idea of this kid growing up in a candy factory is amazing, and the other kids lives are so well imagined---but I won't give anything away.

I think you should have a open book so
You can learn to read better

In the beginning it was boring because I didn't know what was going on. I would recommend this book for ages 10 to 12
