Peace reigns in Caer Dallben, where Taran works as Assistant Pig-Keeper, but evil threatens the rest of Prydain. The diabolical Arawn's army grows every day, and his terrible warriors never die. "One of my favorite books of the series."

Little does Karen know that he will be meeting those three hags again, nor does he know how important they will be to him in the future. this book is full of suspense companionship trials and tribulations and so much more. I love this series & wish they would make it these into a movie.

    "The Black Cauldron"
What made the experience of listening to The Black Cauldron the most enjoyable?

Oh yes, after a long time away I am back again reading and listening (Audible) to Black Cauldron.

So finished again, must admit that I've forgotten parts of it, but all the better to enjoy again.

Just finished The Black Calderon wonderful balance of themes. Faith, friendship, courage, self worth and the balance of good and evil. Above all I think the lessons of discernment are done will.

What did you like best about this story?

The flowing theme of friendship and helping among friends.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The encountering of the three witches.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    An evil brew!

"Much Better than the Disney Movie"

The Prydain Chronicles was one of my favorite fantasy series as a child. I decided to listen to it again largely out of nostalgia. The story incorporates many old Welsh myths to weave an exciting fantasy world that centers on a boy who dreams of accomplishing big deeds but learns both humanity and courage.

This book might be a bit scary for very young children but most ages 7 and up will enjoy the magic and adventure. Of all five books in the series, this one is probably the most disturbing for younger children.

My only complaint is that after buying book 1, I discovered that there was an option to buy book 1 and book 2 in the series together as one book, so it ended up costing me an extra credit to get the entire series.

    "Enjoyable"

James Langton is an excellent narrator. I love all the interactions between Elonwy and Taran. She is sharp tongued and continually baffles the poor boy.

    "Well narrated for young listeners"

The five books in this classic coming-of-age series were written to be read aloud, and the narrator does a good job with them. They were favorite bedtime stories for our children and they enjoyed hearing them again while traveling. Although the main character is a boy growing to be a man, both my sons and daughter have read and re-read these stories. Be aware that some of the characters die in the later books, so this is not for very young children. Ages eight to twelve would be about right.

    "A Series that Builds"

Although you can listen to just one of these books, they are more fun as a set. Each story builds upon the others. All the companions of the previous volume return. The theme of this book is sacrifice.

    Story
"Harry Potter, Percy Jackson Fans, This is For You!"

This is the 2nd book in the Chronicles of Prydain, and a Newberry Award finalist. The 5th book in the series (The High King) won the Newberry Award. I highly recommend all five books. If you love great adventures, well drawn lovable characters, and profound life lessons, you will love Prydain. Lloyd Alexander creates the world of Prydain loosely based on Welsh mythology. They are excellent excellent books! For those who have listened to Harry Potter, James Langton does as good a job as Jim Dale. It was wonderful to listen to him bring Taran and his friends to life. This is a book written for younger readers (middle school and late elementary) but high schoolers and adults will take much from it also. Do yourself a favor--read these books!
