wonderfully read, awesome writing, but the background noise was unnecessary, mildly irritating, and at times made the reading hard to hear. A great performance but is go with the normal audiobook version if I had to choose again.
I just learned how to read, so I figured I'd just listen.
everything was great, except the sound effects often drowned out the reader. the effects were much louder than the story.
I'm a corporate training consultant and adjunct professor who loves to read! I'm always looking for the next big thing.
I really love this story; however, there was far, far too much background noise and voices that were supposed to enhance the experience. It had just the opposite effect and was very distracting.
The quality of the recording is excellent, second to none. I can't see me downloading any more though, as I really didn't like the book. If anyone hasn't come accross it, (as I hadn't), this is a VERY depressing tome. Snicket cleverly paints a beautiful picture of childhood idyl, and then smashes it into a million pieces in one sentence, genuinely shocking the reader. Following on from that, things go from bad to worse for the primary characters, and I found myself feeling very down after listening to it. I shan't say any more as I don't want to give away the ending but be aware this is not a happy ending read.
This is a fun and quirky story. I read it years ago when it came out and wanted to hear the audio version. Tim Curry is excellent (as usual) and the rest of the cast was good, but the sound effects and background noise were very distracting. I prefer the later books narrated by Tim Curry alone. The whole series is wonderful, though.
yes, i definitely would! I love how they bring the story to life and there is more than one narrator!
I loved all three of the children the most! They were all so unique and different! They each had something different that i loved!
I loved it! They made the story very interesting! I couldn't make myself pause it because they made it so intriguing!
Really, I loved every part! But, if I had to choose, I would definitely pick whenever the children had a conversation together, with no one else around. They tried to encourage each other, but they always told each other the truth!
His books are amazing and I will definitely be reading (and listening!) to the rest of the series!
The full cast thing is obnoxious, especially during scenes when there is a baby crying the whole time. But the book is good. Would not recommend this audio book.
Tim Curry's narration was spot on and the sound effects added to the listening experience. This was an enjoyable story, with interesting characters and plot line. The narrator's gloomy perspective and warnings added to the enjoyment of this predicament! Looking forward to the orphans' next adventure!!
What a great tale, I could not stop listening all the while hoping that something pleasant was going to happen to the three orphans!! A must hear!!
