Publisher's Summary

Captured by a giant!

The BFG is no ordinary bone-crunching giant. He is far too nice and jumbly. It's lucky for Sophie that he is. Had she been carried off in the middle of the night by the Bloodbottler, or any of the other giants - rather than the BFG - she would have soon become breakfast. When Sophie hears that the giants are flush-bunking off to England to swollomp a few nice little chiddlers, she decides she must stop them once and for all. And the BFG is going to help her!

What the Critics Say

"Versatile British actor David Walliams pulls out all the stops from his vocal repertoire to create a romping narration of this children's classic. There’s no voice too big or too small for him.... The four-plus hours whiz by with whimsy and inspired fun. Whether you’re a child or a child at heart, you’ll have a wopsy, splendiferous time." (AudioFile)

I love espionage, legal, and detective thrillers but listen to most genres. Very frequent reviews. No plot spoilers! Please excuse my typos!

"GREEKS FROM GREECE ALL BE TASTING GREASY"

    WHIZ BANG
Roald is an excellent writer who writes like a child thinks, how he does this I do not know. This is entertaining at any age. I like the Giant Peach better, but no by much. This plot was less complicated and repeated a lot of the same jokes (which is okay with most kids). It was also a little more predictable, but all in all an imaginative read. At least now I know who to think or complain to about my dreams.

    CURIOSITY IS KILLING THE RAT
Just like in Peach, there are some deaths. Younger children are probably not going to even notice. THE BIG FRIENDLY GIANT does not eat children, but the nine other giants eat CHILDERS.

    RIGHT OR LEFT
There are some sound effects and some music and it just adds to the atmosphere of the book.

    "Fabulously fabulous!!!"

I read this story as a child and loved it! Now I had the great pleasure of listening to this story with my son who in turn loved it as much as I did! The narration was brilliant and was made even better by the frequent sound effects! The story was just as thrilling to listen to as I remembered! I believe we have found a family road trip favorite!

    "Classic and delightful!"

We read this story and listened to it on Audible before seeing the movie. My daughters are seven years old. They were a little afraid of the parts of the story involving the mean Giants. They love Sophie. David Walliams did a wonderful job changing his voice to reflect the different personalities of the mean Giants. Highly recommend!

    "Great story, but....."

The one major issue I had was the recording itself. Some of his voices were hard to hear and some were very loud. So you'd turn the volume up and quickly have to turn it down. The recording in general is low. The narrator does a great job in drawing the story in your imagination.
