I love the old Superman radio show, but this is a terrible reproduction. No mastering work has been done, the copy of each episode is filled with static and is occasionally impossible to hear. And to be explicit, I don't mean that there's a little bit of wear and static, which you would expect from an old recording - I mean to say that some episodes you can't make out even one word in five. With others you can get by if you really focus, but either way, this is not an enjoyable listening experience.
Also, to correct an error in the listing - the author Michael Teitelbaum has nothing to do with this collection. He wrote a children's book of Superman titled "I Am Superman", and the title here has been picked up for unknown reasons. This is old episodes of the Superman radio show, first aired in the 1940s. I truly love the radio show and have been hunting for the old episodes for a long time, and thought I'd hit the jackpot here, but this is a sham. It's terrible that a site named Audible would let something so inaudible be posted to their site.
Save your money.
I have many other better sound quality episodes by a different publisher, and many of the same ones with better sound are in this collection and the sound on this is so awful it makes me tierd and gives me a headache to listen to this!! Steer clear unless you want a splitting headache!!
I am a fan of old serials, radio and film. Unfortunately, the source material for these recordings is very poor. The static makes it very difficult to make out the dialogue. When listening in the car, it's almost impossible. Disappointed.
This question is so relivant, I grow up with Superman on TV so getting the audio seem a great way to go back to my childhood. PLEASE DON'T BOTHER PURCHASING. I just recently decided to do a Superman-a-thon (do to the whole thing at one listen) and was so, so disappointed with the quality or lack there of. Because I purchased it so long ago I can't even return it. This recording should be free, if not just eliminated from the purchase lists. It has no monetary value or nostalgic value. Can't understand the words, crackling and hissing, muffled. It should never have been made available for sale. Audible should give everyone who purchase this a credit to get something else. Please, it can't be just about the money for Audible. It should also be about your credibility as someone who sells quality items. I personally put my faith in audible to at least sell something that can be heard.
Maybe I'll try "The Saint" radio programs. The audio has to be better than this. Such a shame. Very disappointing.
NO, NO, NO, NO. BAD COPY!!! BAD, BAD REALLY BAD AUDIO.
First, start with the title. "Superman Classic: I Am Superman" is not the name of the radio program. Second, this should never have been released to the public for a fee. What character would I cut?? ALL OF WHAT YOU HEAR!!!!!
As an audible listener, I rely on Audible.com to screen all items that are listed for purchase. A supermarket is not allowed to sell damaged food stuffs without letting you know what you are getting. Kind of the same thing here.
"Great idea, poorly pulled off"
I love the old radio dramas and have quite a few now thanks to audible. Unfortunately trying to listen to this one is terrible. You have to strain to hear what the characters are saying and really can't get into it. Not one of my better purchases.
