Publisher's summary

Newbery Medal Winner, 1946

The land was theirs, but so were its hardships.

Strawberries - big, ripe, and juicy. Ten-year-old Birdie Boyer can hardly wait to start picking them. But her family has just moved to the Florida backwoods, and they haven't even begun their planting. "Don't count your biddies 'fore they're hatched, gal young un!" her father tells her.

Making the new farm prosper is not easy. There is heat to suffer through, and droughts, and cold snaps. And, perhaps most worrisome of all for the Boyers, there are rowdy neighbors, just itching to start a feud.

Love Love Love!!!

My whole family loved listening to this book. The story was wonderful and the narrator Natalie Ross made it come alive. Lois Lenski has a wonderful way of quickly making you feel and see the story. It was hands down one of our top favorites.

Excellent Narration -

The narrator does justice to this remarkable book. Lenski's works take you to another time and place and show you the world from an innocent child's point of view. I am so glad new generations will be able to hear this 1946 Newbery Award winning book on audible.

Poor reading, great story

I love the story of "Strawberry Girl", but I feel like the person who read it used to much emphasis on the country accent. Sometimes I found it hard to understand. The story, though, is AMAZING.

Well read. Important lessons for everyone to learn. Really speaks to the children and puts things at their level.

great story... volume difficult to control

love the story and the history. makes me want to find her other books. the story teller was great in voices and inflection. only complaint is the yelling in the book or raised voices would hurt the ears but if you turned it down you couldn't hear the book.
