Publisher's summary

Newbery Medal Winner, 1946

The land was theirs, but so were its hardships.

Strawberries - big, ripe, and juicy. Ten-year-old Birdie Boyer can hardly wait to start picking them. But her family has just moved to the Florida backwoods, and they haven't even begun their planting. "Don't count your biddies 'fore they're hatched, gal young un!" her father tells her.

Making the new farm prosper is not easy. There is heat to suffer through, and droughts, and cold snaps. And, perhaps most worrisome of all for the Boyers, there are rowdy neighbors, just itching to start a feud.

Excellent For Children

Would you consider the audio edition of Strawberry Girl to be better than the print version?

The author, Lois Lenski, is brilliant, and the narrator does a great job of bringing out the different characters with her voices. My children were captivated and did not want me to shut it off.

Nom Nom Nom I ate it up

Ok so I literally ate it up i ground It down, put it in soup, and ate it after killing six hogs and burning a family's home to the ground.

IT WAS AWESOME LIKE AMAZING inspiring, so I'm twelve right and a boy none the less so you know books about little girls picking strawberries REALLY I mean come on I was miserable when I was told I had to read it. THEN I read it and it blew me away and I mean like 🤗😇😱👊🏼 kinda inspiration. So I encourage you to read it it's well worth a credit and whatever else you wanna give. Lois Lenski may be dead in a hole somewhere in flo rida's house singing good feeling but Matt Damon could that PHSYCO write inspiration! SO TAKE ONLY THIS FROM THE BOOK IT TASTES LIKE STRAWBERRIES AND NUCA COLA FROM FALLOUT 4 btw if a person named even Roth reads this I'll tell you I do not know you I am just telepathic

My whole family loved listening to this book. The story was wonderful and the narrator Natalie Ross made it come alive. Lois Lenski has a wonderful way of quickly making you feel and see the story. It was hands down one of our top favorites.

Poor reading, great story

I love the story of "Strawberry Girl", but I feel like the person who read it used to much emphasis on the country accent. Sometimes I found it hard to understand. The story, though, is AMAZING.

Excellent Narration -

The narrator does justice to this remarkable book. Lenski's works take you to another time and place and show you the world from an innocent child's point of view. I am so glad new generations will be able to hear this 1946 Newbery Award winning book on audible.

the narration was excellent

This is a nice book. I enjoy reading the Newberry winners. The narration was so well done. All the tension between the two families was interesting, but of course the women had to take matters into their own hands and fix it. I thought the ending was a bit too tidy. But maybe that's really how it happened seeing as this is based on real people. in that case it would be a happy ending!
