From the day she arrives at quiet Mica High in a burst of color and sound, the hallways hum with the murmur of "Stargirl, Stargirl." She captures Leo Borlock's heart with just one smile. She sparks a school-spirit revolution with just one cheer. The students of Mica High are enchanted.
Then they turn on her. Stargirl is suddenly shunned for everything that makes her different. And Leo, panicked and desperate with love, urges her to become the very thing that can destroy her: normal.
In this celebration of nonconformity, Newbery Medalist Jerry Spinelli weaves a tense, emotional tale about the perils of popularity and the thrill and inspiration of first love.

"Ritter's reading pulsates with all the guarded passion and quiet graces of a young man in love for the first time...Spinelli once again reminds us how difficult but wonderful it is to be human." (AudioFile)
"A unique love story and humorous tragedy." (Parents' Choice)
"Ritter fully captures the emotional current of Spinelli's text. He relates the humorous details, clique-related dramas and intense heartbreak of high school life with a knowing tone that young listeners will likely embrace." (Publishers Weekly)
I downloaded this book for my 10 yr old kid. I personally don't like to read books, except for technical books, so I thought that I thought I would listen to the story while I'm doing work and be able to talt to my kid about it. I have to admit I really enjoyed star girl and my son will find it easy to relate to her since he too like to do things his own way, though not to the extent of the character. I personally would recommend this to kids ages from 9 to 13. I'll have my son post an update as soon as he listens to it. Great story for kids
Little did I know that we would lose such a great actor in John Ritter at such an early age, but we also lost him as a wonderful narrator. Who knew he was so endearing and charming with his voice. It really captured my attention and I loved this story. Definitely worth your time.
Say something about yourself!
A lovely and often humorus story of a teenage girl attending public school after years of being homeschooled. This girl has her own unique way of thinking, dressing and participating in high school life. Star Girl is comfortable with being herself even though she is different from the other kids. Star Girl is like a star beam shining new light
& life into the local high school.
3 because it is just so long.
by putting elustrations and shorting the story a little bit but keep the suspense.
he makes a really good experience and its much comfortable than reading by listening.
i dont know what that means
awesome book never read anything like that.
Sorry, the narration by the late Mr. Ritter was disappointing, to be sure. It sounded like he was reading a newspaper. I've done a much better version in my classroom. What a bummer. Great story, "must" read - but not a "must" listen.
I read this novel at 11 and it rocked my world. Hearing it again at 22 has been nothing short of an adventure. In it, I can see the world as microcosm. I suggest this book for any reader over 10 who has ears that not only hear, but to listen as well. It's amazing.
Woah, this book is super awesome. It is in my top 10 now. It's probably number 8 because I've read really good books and you have to save room for others so yeah. And Jerry Spinelli if you see this at one point or another just know I FREAKING LOVE YOU!!!!!!! And when I become and author someday you should read my books too!
