Tired of listening to stories about humans? Consider the werewolf! Taking various forms over the course of centuries and mythologies, often as flesh-devourers, werewolves now commonly appear in fantasy and romance novels as shape-shifters. The shape-shifting element in werewolves' stories has almost humanized them, depicting the internal struggles we all face within ourselves, on some level or another.

Pretty good

Is it strange that I would rather have a connection with a wild wolf than a love struck teenager? This made it hard to connect with the main character. The female narrator was quite good, but I did not care for the male. The story was good, though not all that original. Overall I enjoyed it.

Good Read to Pass Time

What did you love best about Shiver?

This was a really sweet teenagery love story. It's not fair for me to compare the book to Twilight, as I am an adult Twilight fan, but it was little too soft for me, especially the werewolf character (mentally & physically), It was a good read to pass time.

What about David LeDoux and Jenna Lamia ’s performance did you like?

There wasn't anything spectacle about the narrators voices. Their voices were pleasant to listen too,

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I can't really see a film being made of this book.

Any additional comments?

I wish the wolf character had a little bit more back bone.

Twilight All Grown Up

This is a paranormal love story (between a seemingly "average", though smart and independant teenage girl) and a shape-shifting Wolf boy. The plot is very similar,(girl meets mythical creature, they fall in love). An interesting, different twist in Shiver is that Grace and Sam do have a "history", in a way...but only knowing each other as different species up to this point. This is written with more warmth, and more realism as to how two teenagers would really behave...not all the restraint and protracted guilt of Twilight. The prose is more deft and lyrical; the author displays finesse and does not waste one word while she conveys the characters personalities and hearts through their thoughts or dialogue. The love scenes are very sweet. Grace and Sam are characters that will win your heart. As for the story in audio form, the male character's voice may be an acquired taste and (does sound older than the female character), in small parts may seem a little angsty and whiney, but it conveys what Sam is going through. Don't care too much for the male doing Grace's voice, (They alternate parts) but love the way J. Lamia does Sam's voice. Very sexy, makes you wish we could all have our very own Sam. Enjoy!

Dopey but entertaining

Dopey adolescent romance but a lot of fun to listen to and it draws you in. The performers are fabulous. I really enjoyed this silly little book while commuting to the office and while getting ready for work in the morning. A light diversion.

Very sweet and well written story.

I really liked the story. I thought it was really sweet, very interesting and if I could have I would’ve read it/listened to it all the way through in one sitting. I also LOVED Jenna Lamia’s voice as Grace and change of tones and attitudes for each character. Beautiful voice and talented girl. I didn’t care too much for the voice of Sam, I just felt that it didn’t fit. But other than that I really enjoyed this.

A wonderful love story

In a time that we are inundated with vampires, zombies and werewolf stories, comes a great twist on the plot, and was so well written that only the few times that that the characters mention the word werewolf are we actually sharply drawn out of the weave. If not for the use of that word, I would have given it 5 stars.
The voice performance by Jenna was exceptional, but David’s performance was just a little under par. Overall the story is one worth listening too! I can’t wait to read/listen to the next in the series.

Even though it’s classified young adult, this is a great quick read for an adult too!

The naturally unfolding love story drawls you in as the author paints beautiful scenes with her words. The kissing scenes between the characters aren’t forced and are just the right level to fulfill the want for that connection without a little ‘too much’.

I'll forever remember 15 degrees...

Any additional comments?

There are many things to keep you interested while you are reading Shiver.

First, you are constantly reminded of the temperature. By the end of the book, you are conditioned to need that 'clue' to help you know if the chapter is going to be a good one or a struggle for life. I will forever remember 15 degrees.

Second, the chapters are so short that you don't have time to become bored. It also makes everything seem very fast paced.

Third, the way Maggie Stiefvater describes smells is incredible. It reminded me of the way Erin Morgenstern visually described everything in The Night Circus (one of my favorite books).

Fourth, Maggie Stiefvater instantly bonds Grace to Sam by frequently reminding us that Sam is Grace's 'wolf'...solidifying our desire for them to beat the odds.

After coming off the The Hunger Games, this book was perfect. There is nothing too serious (i.e. no famine, war, or brutal murder). This book allows you to read for the pure and simple joy of reading...vegging...enjoying a great story created by a phenomenal author.

I should also mention that I LOVE the book cover.
