"A strong start for the series"

Peter Lerangis's first book in the series has me looking forward to the following books. Jack and his three friends are likable characters. The plot was interesting with its plot twists and the interaction between the protagonists. The narrator did a fine job with this book. This should be liked by readers who enjoy the 39 clues books.

"I wanted to like it but the performance was awful"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

For a young adult book the adventure and action was exciting; however, the performance of the audio book was beyond awful! Halfway through I couldn't take it any more and deleted it from my ipod. I picked up the book in hard copy from the library to finish the story. I would not purchase any titles by that narrator again.

"Really good book for Riordan fans"

Great book, it uses some familiar themes, but with a fresh twist so the story does not feel stale at all.

Narrator performance was good, mostly on par with most other young adult literature. The biggest weakness of the performance was the occasional exaggerated reactions. Too much yelling when it sounded totally fake and awkward.

Recently found a love for books and with Audible I can clean and keep going - I also use it in my classroom to urge kids to read.

    "Colossus Rises"

This was a very very very long story that had several moments to end and pick up in another book whew. Found myself wishing for characters to die just to end

"1 hour of quite a day"
Where does Seven Wonders, Book 1: The Colossus Rises rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    Top 5

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jack was smart and funny and was a true leader of the group.

What about Johnathan McClain’s performance did you like?

Great job - loved they way he changed his voice for each character.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

We laughed and the book left us hanging. Couldn't wait to start the second book.

    Any additional comments?

My children loved this book. Everyday on the way to and from school they asked to listen to the book. It has been the quietest car ride we have had in months. Thank you Peter Lerangis for giving this mom something to look forward to each day.

    "A solid book for sure"

I'm judging this for itself, and not for it's part in the series.

The main characters are believable and relatable. I can certainly understand Jack's lack of self confidence as the story progresses. I was a little disappointed that one of the four's return was so predicable, but I can't blame them for wanting to show a bit of physical proof of the power they were talking about. The either drip fed twists and shocking revelations expertly from beginning to end. I am looking forward to getting my hands on the next book soon.

    "Slow beginning, but worth it."

My daughter is in 5th grade and this book is her book club's selection. She listened to this and immediately took out book two. She liked fable haven and seven kingdoms. This one isn't quite as enjoyable as those for her but she gives this 4 stars.

"Decent Storyline- Most Kids Will Like It"

The story is okay... I would probably read the next book in the series. I didn't love the performance, though I guess toward the end I just kind of settled for it. Very Riordan-esque, though there were moments when I thought it was a bit too over the top - silly almost.
