Publisher's summary

"Trouble Twins" Dallas and Florida have been shuffled between foster families and the orphanage all their lives. All they want is a loving place to call home, but they are mistrustful that one exists for the likes of them.

Tiller and Sairy are a sweet couple who are each restless for one more big adventure while their bodies are still spry enough to paddle a canoe or climb a mountain. Their own children have grownup and moved away, so they're each looking for someone to help them and keep them company on their last exciting journey.

And Ruby Holler is the beautiful, mysterious place that changes all of their lives forever. When Tiller and Sairy invite Dallas and Florida to stay with them and keep them company on their adventures, the magic of the Holler takes over, and the two kids begin to think that maybe, just maybe, the old folks aren't that bad.

Filled with humor, poignancy, cookies and treasure maps, Newbery Medal winner Sharon Creech's Ruby Holler is a delightful book about a special place where it's never to late to love, or be loved.

A journey about love

Sometimes the hardest lesson in life is learning how to love and allowing oneself to be loved.

This lovely journey of Dallas and Florida is exactly that lesson. The twins are orphans and have learned to mistrust everyone, young and old alike. It takes a caring couple needing to open their hearts as wide as they open their home to teach these two young kids how to love and be loved.

Very much recommended.

narrator and story A+

I wish the story would go on forever. Creech does it again. Walk two moons, Chasing Redbird and Ruby Holler. Books for any age listener, beautifully told by narrators that tell them with the kind of passion required for a young listener.

Ruby Holler Review

This story tells the tale of two orphans, Dallas, and Florida who have lived in the BOxton Creek Home since infancy. They have been handed off from foster parent to foster parent and always returned to the home being nicknamed the "trouble twins" They ecentually come up with a plan to sneak off on a midnight train and are waiting for the right oppertunity...one day an older couple, wanting to take a last great adventure, come to the home looking for strong kids to accompany them. They find Dallas and Florida. This is their chance they think however once they arrive to Ruby Holler they cannot leave for the Holler is too enchanting and Tiller and Sairy, the couple who took them in, treat them too nicely. They learn to love it there and after Tiller suffers from a heart attack decidd to stay home from their adverntures to just enjoy the Holler. This is a great book and i recommend it for anyone interested in a heartwarming, great story.

Fun and interesting for kids and adults

The performance of this book is so well done. Interesting voices and great expression. My six year old was very engaged in the story. Her only disappointment was the open-ended nature of the last chapter.
