Bracing for a final clash with the evil warlord Morgarath, the Rangers rally the kingdom's allies, and Will is chosen, along with his friend Horace, as special envoy to nearby Celtica. But the simple mission soon takes an unsettling turn: the Celticans have disappeared, their town abandoned. The scheming hand of Morgarath, it seems, has been far from idle. He has found a way to bring his legions over the once impassible eastern mountains and is planning to ambush the king's army in a rout.
Now with help many miles away, Will and Horace are the only ones standing in the way of the dark lord's plans. They have shown great skill and courage in their training, but how will they fare in the face of true evil?

This lives up to the first book's strong story line, and since I have heard part 8 as well I know that I actually like this series.
While this book is for pre-teens and teens it is really good. Believeable characters and good life lessons but not preachy or sappy. As an adult, I find it every entertaining.
I get that the skandians are supposed to be hard to understand but this was excessive making it more annoying than entertaining. Also it really bothered me that Lady Pauline's voice was the same tone and pitch as King Duncan and Baron Arold. Otherwise it was a great story and I'm excited for the next one!
A good story but felt like this was a little bit of a filler book. Not a lot to the story. A great cliff hanger at the end I'll have to start the next book ASAP.
I did not like this narrator it took the whole book to get used to his style. Really not my favorite sorry to say.
Enjoyed the narrator in the first book more. Some of the accents were a bit distracting and comical. Also the pronunciation of some words were wrong. The overall story was great and very captivating. Can't wait to start the next book.
The first Night Ranger Apprentice book had left me wanting to hear more about Will and I eagerly picked up the second book in the series. I was extremely disappointed. This narration was *unlistenable*. His accents were over the top. His timing was off. He emphasized the wrong part of the sentence. (Who emphasizes the words "he said").
I had just about decided to read the book instead of listening when I determined that there was another audio edition of the exact same book. The other edition was much more enjoyable.
In summary... this is a poor exposure to the world of the Night Ranger's Apprentice. There is another narration of this exact same book. Save your money and look for it.!
Excellent series that I have been able to share with my kids. However, books 6 and 7 of the 9 part series are not available from audible. Terrible thing to do. I can find the others available elsewhere, but would really prefer to stick with audible.
