As Pollyanna arrives in Beldingsville to live with her strict and dutiful maiden aunt, she exclaims, "Oh, Aunt Polly, I don't know how to be glad enough that you let me come to live with you!" And from this point she begins to bring cheer into everybody's life, including the sick, the lonely, and the just plain miserable. All are transformed until one day when something so terrible happens that even Pollyanna doesn't know how to feel glad anymore.

I am a lover of good stories, a mom, a wife, and an educator.
Somehow in my youth I managed to miss the story of Pollyanna. I had never read the book or seen a movie version. When my children's literature list turned up this gem, we decided to listen to it together. We all loved it!
The story itself is precious. We described it as "Anne of Green Gables meets the Secret Garden and The Railway Children." Pollyanna's difficult situation and her positive take on practically everything actually challenged my thinking and helped me to look at the bright side of things as well.
The story was wonderful, the performance was great, and we all were uplifted by this story. I Highly recommend for kids to adults.
This book is a classic. It is so wonderfully written. Pollyanna sets the best example for all young ladies to follow. She is Wonderful.
I cried when I thought she would never walk again. And once again, when she did.
Pollyanna's so kind and positive; she inspires me to play the glad game!
I love this story! I love that everyone who meets Pollyanna is changed for the better.
Pollyanna- a sweet child's voice without being overdone.
Yes- when Aunt Polly is changed for the better, and opens herself to love. And when Pollyanna is able to walk again!
Love, love, love this book! Will be listening to this classic forever!
My twelve year old daughter enjoyed the story and the narration was very good. Now, when someone says, "Don't be such a Pollyanna," she understands. I definitely think this book should be a part of every child's reading experience -- very positive message that even children can make a difference in other people's lives.
this book is fascinating! it was written so long ago, yet we can apply its wisdom everyday :) all kids should read this ... and adults too!
If you have a hazy but pleasant memory of this book from your childhood it's probably best not to revisit it. Sad to say the burden of 45 extra years from the first experience made me want to assassinate the heroine at a mere 60minutes in. Possibly not a book for today's child as the footnotes would outstrip the narrative.
It was however very pleasing to note that Pollyanna's aunt did finally get together with the doctor - a fact that escaped me so many years ago.
It is also an inescapable fact that literary ladies did indulge in a bucket load of plot plagiarism in the good old days but hang it all, toss away the cynicism and fling yourself back to childhood and enjoy.
I enjoyed this book. The only fault i found was that, the voice of the young were old. which spoilt it a little. It would be difficult to make it any other way
Although supposedly a child's book, I have much enjoyed this as an adult. Recommended.
