On a difficult journey across the sea, he and Tink discover the dark and deadly slithering part-man/part-creature Lord Ombra, who is intent on recovering the missing starstuff - celestial dust that contains unimagined powers.
In London, Peter attempts to track down the indomitable Molly, hoping that together they can combat Ombra's determined forces. But London is not Mollusk Island; Peter is not the boy he used to be; and Lord Ombra - the Shadow Master - is unlike anything Peter, or the world, has ever seen.
"Dale has the uncanny knack of knowing his characters; he presents each personality to us as an intimate acquaintance." (AudioFile)

"This should appeal to fantasy and adventure fans alike." (School Library Journal)
"Readers will relish the chance to further explore the backstory of a favorite childhood tale." (Booklist)
"Peter and the Shadow Thieves" picks up where "Peter and the Starcatchers" left off, assuming that the listener knows about Peter's previous adventures; so one needs to listen to the two books in sequence. Both books provide us the prequel to J. M. Barrie's "Peter Pan," telling us how Peter acquired the ability to fly, where Tinkerbell came from, how Peter met Captain Hook, and how he came to live on Mollusk Island with the Lost Boys. Only Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson tell Peter's story a whole lot better than J. M. Barrie did. And Jim Dale's narration would justify listening to these audiobooks, even if they hadn't been so well written. In fact, just hearing the masterful Jim Dale imitate the caw of a raven makes "Peter and the Shadow Thieves" worth the purchase price. I recommend this series to anybody -- young or old -- who has an innocent heart, and who can enjoy an adventure story without explicit violence.
Choreographer. Director. Actor. Educator. And lover of audio books! They are theatre for the mind!
If you are a fan of fantasy books and creative story telling then you will love these books! Even though these are books meant for children, you do not need to be a child to appreciate the brilliant story telling and creative reworking of this classic tale. If you are a fan of the Harry Potter Books you will love these especially because they have the same narrator. Jim Dale is amazing. It feels like 20 people are reading me this book not just one.
Hours of great listening! My kids (8 and 11) and I started listening to the adventures of Peter and the Starcatchers in the car. They became so hooked (no pun intended:o)they insisted we keep listening mornings at breakfast before school and when cleaning up after dinner. We really enjoyed each of these books and have moved on to the Never Land series. These books worked for me and now my kids love to use their imagination listening instead of watching movies in the car.
Our sincere appreciation to the very talented Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson for this gift, excellently narrated by my favorite Jim Dale.
Do your kids a favor, turn off the TV, turn off the video games and turn on their imagination by listening to a really good Audiobook.
The Starcatcher series tells the tale of Peter Pan before he was Peter Pan. These books (we just started the third in the four-book series) are so well written, I can't understand why they aren't better known than many other similar but less well written series for kids (I won't name any names).
They are the kind of books both kids and adults can really enjoy and get into. They are packed with suspense and laughs. The characters are extremely engaging and believable. The stories are fantasy and nevertheless are so convincingly set out that you find yourself completely immersed in them.
The second book in this series is just as enjoyable as the first was. I highly, highly recommend the Starcatcher series for great family listening.
Good book that captures the making of Peter Pan, but the writing became more "juvenile" as the book went on and seemed to be written to a younger audience than even the first book.
Great reader, enthusiastic.
Immigration lawyer in Kansas City. I like Character driven dramas, fantasy (monsters, magic and witches oh my!) and coming of age stories. Favs include: The Book Thief, The Game of Throne series, Harry Potter Series, Dresden Files, Nightside series, anything by Neil Gaimen, 100 Years of Solitude.
Superior narrator, the best eve, awesome exciting and enchanting story. I love the action and the story telling. Can't wait to listen the next book.
I think Jim Dale is my favorite narrator. He is so wonderful to listen to and the stories of Peter, Molly, George, the boys, etc are so exciting it's difficult to stop the book to do other things.
For starters, Jim Dale is absolutely amazing as a reader. Hands down, the best in the business. He makes any story come alive with such richness and depth that you feel like you are right there in it! And, this is a rollicking good tale! Every bit as good as the first! My only "criticism" is that there is so much going on, that I got a little tired living through it! (Of course, that kind of liveliness is hardly a real criticism.) Suffice it to say that both mom and 10 yo boy were absolutely riveted.
