"Mr Stink stank. He also stunk. And if it was correct English to say he stinked, then he stinked as well….”
Chloe sees Mr Stink every day, but she’s never spoken to him. Which isn’t surprising, because he’s a tramp, and he stinks.
But there’s more to Mr Stink than meets the eye (or nose), and before she knows it, Chloe has an unusual new friend hiding in her garden shed.
As Chloe struggles to keep Mr Stink a secret, and her dad tries to hide a secret of his own, the stage is set for an epic family confrontation. But there's one other person with an extraordinary secret: Mr Stink himself.

This was the first book by David Williams my family listened to. This book is very heartwarming, a little sad, and ends on a great note. I really enjoyed how the author brought together so many aspects into one book. My kids were entranced, and we had a great time listening to this book. I would highly recommend this book for grade school kids. Be prepared to explain what some words mean though. "Tramp" for example. My kids loved it despite the language difference.
My 7-year old son loves this story. (We're only about halfway through, because we only listen to it when we're in the car for longish time periods.) The reader/narrator's vast array of British accents for the various characters are cartoonish when they need to be, but sincere and honestly human when required. Just like a good comedy. Great entertainment with a good human story in the middle of it. I love it too.
"Mr Stink by David Walliams"
Funny and had me giggling, lovely bed time 'read' and was read brilliantly by David Walliams, not just a book for the children.
I loved this book. The fact that Matt Lucas and David Walliams both do the voices of the various characters makes the book come alive, and if, like me, you're a fan of Little Britain you will no doubt relish hearing their voices in this setting. Though it's not a dramatized play, it gives the audiobook a flavour of this, complete with sound effects and is as such perfect for children of all ages, like me.
I listened to this with my seven year old grandson. We were both completely taken with the story and storytelling.
"Brilliant Children's book"
To be honest, I find Little Britain as funny as a skin disease, however, David Walliams has now shown himself to be a remarkable, insightful and charming writer and performer of Children's books and the audiobooks are hugely helped by the performance of Matt Lucas. The stories are never patronising, whilst often adressing themes of lonliness and alienation. My whole family enjoyed them on a recent long car journey. An absolute delight.
Roald Dahl would be a fair comparision and not just because they are illustrated by Quentin Blake.
Mainly convenience. If anything, I'd prefer to read them to my daughter myself.
The part where she tells the Prime Minister 'Dave' to stick something up his bum!
My daughter says: It was really good.
"Great for younger listeners who like Roald Dahl"
My 5 and 7 year old boys sniggered loudly in the back of the car at this tale of a very smelly tramp.
Whilst it lacks some of the grim nastiness of Roald Dahl, it's that way inclined. I'm not sure I enjoyed it as much as they did (slightly predictable), but having the kids cackling with laughter in the back of car makes it worth every penny.
Would certainly look out for David Walliams as narrator again. Great bonkers female characters.
when i sat down and got the app audible i thought this would be rubbish but when i downloaded mr stink i couldnt stop laughing! a funny spoken out book where i enjoyed every chapter.this is great for blind people who cant read can still ejoy books like mr stink. WOW!
I absolutely love David Walliams. I can't believe I haven't discovered the new Roald Dahl by now. My kids love it too. Really funny, great character but a moral message behind the fun. Lots of talking point for children. I will definitely be buying another by this same author.
"BEST MOVIE AND BOOK AND AUDIO BOOK EVER"
I never knew about this till the movie came out.
It was the best movie ever watched in 2012 and even taking to 2013.
Absoutely for kids and wow how imaginable David Walliams is, i thought the movie added all that extra detail but nop its in the book an example under the stairs there was a cupboard, its so realistic!
Honestly i thought the movie was made first!
"excellent must have"
what can i say this is so funny - my son loves it , and david walliams and matt lucas reading it well thats an added bonus ! highly recomended for children . my son is 9 and thinks its ace !
