Publisher's summary

A father's wounded heart. A mother's patient love. An eager boy, an impetuous girl, and, above all, the healing power of nature. These are the classic ingredients that fill Virginia Sorensen's Newbery Award-winning novel with a tender power and lift it to classic status.

First published in 1956, Miracles on Maple Hill is almost uncanny in its appeal for today's young listeners. For here is the story of a father returned from war in a distant land, wounded in body but even more in spirit, and a family desperate for him to be returned to wholeness, a wholeness they hope can be found on Maple Hill.

With language that is tender, precise, evocative, and yet fiercely powerful, Sorensen draws listeners into a year in the family's life, a year filled with small miracles that yield great reward.

Lovingly brought to life by the Full Cast Family, this is a recording for the entire family to cherish.

Engaging Story for the whole Family

We enjoyed Miracles on Maple Hill, especially as a military family, the moments where the father is working to heal, that was good for all of us to listen to. The full cast made the book that much more lively, and we enjoyed the music in between chapters. Overall the book felt like a warm hug that we will listen to again.

I usually love Full Cast readings and this book made the cut. I felt the voices were well casted for each part and the story was very well developed with many unexpected surprise twist and turns. This book will make want to laugh, cry, smile, and sing. It is a great read for all ages.

Sweet yet Engaging Story About Life

Our entire family (parents and kids ages 17-11) enjoyed this story on a long road trip. We all looked forward to turning back on the story after each rest break. The full cast performance really made it come alive. The kids could be kind of annoying and yet how true to life the sibling squabbles and the resolutions. Love and respect and kindness would win the day. Also, precious story line about accepting the cycle of life, as well as community helping one another - and not all learning requires a classroom. Hard work is good for kids, especially when they feel they are contributing!

Would love to find more Full Cast productions. Wish searching for them was easier on Audible app.

A Favorite At Our House.

Would you consider the audio edition of Miracles on Maple Hill to be better than the print version?

A bonus to the audio version is being able to hear the songs that are talked about. While this may seem small it is something my children enjoyed very much.

Which scene was your favorite?

One of the earliest scenes is the family getting stuck trying to go up a snowy hill. The discovery of the Sugar Shack is almost magical in the telling.

Any additional comments?

This book spoke to my heart. There is a desire to do just as the family did in this story, We read a lot of books and listen to a lot of books in our family. Miracles on Maple Hill is one that is a favorite for everyone.

Miracles on Maple Hill

Miracles on Maple Hill is a heartwarming story of a loving family that moves to Grandma’s old home on a Maple Hill to try and heal the father, who has just returned from being a prisoner of war.
Marley, Joe and their parents meet with the mother’s old family friends, the Chrises. Mr. Chris tells little Marly that there will be miracles on Maple Hill.
And soon, there is.

Recommend for ages 7-12. The performance is absolutely perfect, with each character portrayed by a different reader!
