Penguin presents Roald Dahl's Matilda, read by multi-award-winning actress Kate Winslet.
Matilda Wormwood is an extraordinary genius with really stupid parents. Miss Trunchbull is her terrifying headmistress who thinks all her pupils are rotten little stinkers. But Matilda will show these horrible grown-ups that even though she's only small, she's got some very powerful tricks up her sleeve....
Kate Winslet's award-winning and varied career has included standout roles in Titanic, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Finding Neverland, Revolutionary Road, and The Reader, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. Also a highly acclaimed voice artist, she received the Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for Children for Listen to the Storyteller.

A masterpiece from Roald Dahl, brought to life by an incredible performance from Kate Winslet. The only thing missing are Quentin Blake's memorable illustrations! Definitely a must-have title in any book lover's collection.
A subversive and hilarious story, a lovable phenomenon of a girl, her teacher and awful parents and school mistress. Winslet is everyone with aplomb, wit and an incredible voice range: at the same time the cruel Miss Trunchbull and Hortensia, the clever trickster. I heard many parts three or four times. Lovely, lovely experience. Dahl would have been satisfied, I am sure.
The audio version is definitely equal to the film and the book.
The description of the Chokey always gives me chills!
Kate Winslet's narration is lovely, and her characterisation is spot on.
It definitely made me laugh out loud in a few places.
This beautiful audio book kept my 5 year old hooked for a couple of hours! He was so engrossed, it was just as much fun watching him and observing his reactions!
It is epic!!!! Best E V E R !!!!!!! E V E R !!!!!!!!! You've got to read it really really really
"Beautiful, moving and inspiring timeless story!"
One of my favourite books of all time. Excellent narrator. Will hear it again and again. Highly recommend it to both children and grown ups alike!
"What's not to love?"
I love every bit of the book. It's thoroughly entertaining and Kate Winslet was spectacular.
Several. I love Mrs Trunchball's encounter in class with smart Nigel 'unless-you-want my-middle-name' Hicks; the part where Lavender put the newt in her cup of water, and of course Matilda.
I think this is the best of Roald Dahl's books.
Everything, she made all the parts come to life.
I laughed all the way through.
My children also loved it.
beautifully read classic story that always makes my heart feel warm.and fuzzy yo yo yo
I loved Matilda and she is a bit like me.I loved it so so much.
I liked the voices of the characters.
I love roal Dahl books. Well done. Thanks
A wonderful heart warming story read brilliantly by Kate Winslet. My kids love listening to this over all other audio books again and again. I do not tire of the story or the narrators wonderful voice either. you will not be disappointed.
Captured my little girl's imagination and had her hooked! The only issue we had is that when Kate was reading angry parts for Mr Wormwood and Miss Trunchball the volume got so loud it was uncomfortable to listen too. Maybe this could be adjusted?
Loved the story though and Kate's performance
"Ella's favourite story"
