Mary Poppins is like no other nanny the four Banks children have ever seen. She whirls into their home, and "spit-spot", she works her inimitable brand of magic to make even the bland seem extraordinary. An endless source of fascinating adventure, she slides up the banister, produces an array of tricks from her seemingly empty carpetbag, and ensures the Banks' lives will never be the same.

I was not really sure what to expect when i purchased this performance. I had never been exposed to any version except for the Disney movie. I have to say that i was quite impressed with the book, and the reading. I found it charming, and will enjoy listening to it from time to time in the future.
Having now read the book, I can see why P.L. Travers was upset with the movie adaptation. Both versions are lovely, but this Mary Poppins is a slightly more realistic and human portrayal of a stern nanny.
And I do agree with the reviews that said it was sometimes hard to hear.
I enjoy historical fiction, sci-fi and some fantasy. After listening to multiple books in a series, I like to sprinkle in a biography or two
Perhaps it was the dialect or maybe it was the recording quality... but I tried to listen to this story in the car on a long trip with my children and a senior citizen. Not one of us could follow a story with which we were very familiar.
Great narration of a great book. This book was one of my favorites when I was a child. The narrator's performance makes this one of my favorite audiobooks as an adult. Sophie Thompson's accent, voice, and reading is as engaging as the story. Extremely enjoyable and a great use of a credit.
This is a great book for kids to listen to. My daughter enjoyed it, but she did like the movie better.
Mary Poppins needs to be read with an English accent, and Sophie Thompson does a wonderful job.
I loved listening to this classic! It was well written and well read. Sophie Thompson did a great job preforming each part and captured Mary's character beautifully. I can say enough!
It has been one of the best.
The laughter and sitting on the air to have tea.
My son and I used to listen to MARY POPPINS in the car when he was little, and although this isn't the version we listened to, it has brought back memories for both of us! The story is as charming as ever, but I was a bit disappointed with the reading. Nevertheless, you will do your children and yourself a big favor by downloading this audio book and listening together!
The woman sounds like she's trapped under a bed and has to read the book as quickly as possible.
