I loved the book. Imaginative and easy to follow. I am buying the sequels.

    "Bad Harry Potter"

I will usually finish a book. I'll suck it up and get to the end, but I couldn't do it with this one. When the author puts in so much effort to make town walk seem like an epic journey (so much so that the protagonist is wondering how her mother is doing...as compared to 20 minutes ago) I have to bow out.

    "fun but predictable"

I think this book is much more limited in its audience than some other popular young adult/kids series. The characters are fun and multifaceted enough to be generally interesting. The story develops nicely but the plot is fairly predictable.

    "great children's book"

excellent story, great for young kids. Some parts are a bit anoying, like the repeticious mention of boy 412, but all in all a light and playfull story that was a joy to listen too.

    "Cute Story"

I am a huge potter fan, and I enjoyed this story. It is great for kids and wonderful for adults who want to listen to a simple good-hearted story. If you are looking for something that is unpredictable, however, this story is not for you. Many of the plot lines were obvious but it was fun to listen and see how your assumptions will roll out. I would recommend this book.

    "Watch Out, Harry Potter!"

These are some really ingenious and fun books. There are great plays on words and ideas. Although they are definitely not Harry Potter, they do hold their own in the "boy wizard" category. The narrator does a wonderful job. My friend and I took the first book on a long vacation/road trip and laughed the entire time.

    "Interesting"

The book was interesting. Sometimes I was a little bored with all the description. It is supposed to a children's book, but I don't know; I got lost sometimes in all the loooong drawn out descriptions. But it was enjoyable and cute!

    "Brilliant read/listen"

Allan Corduner is a brilliant narrator. His voicings are spot on and never forced. Magyk is a fun story but it is Corduner's performance that makes this audiobook a wonderful wonderful treat. I was dismayed to discover he did NOT narrate the two sequels. It took awhile to get used to the new narrator. I have started listening to The Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix because Corduner narrates.

    "Great fun!"

I just loved this story. Lively, imaginative characters in a magical land with a timeless message about the importance of family. I stayed up way past my bedtime to hear the last few hours of the story, I was so engrossed by it. Looking forward to the next one. Great fun!
