The first book in this enthralling new series by Angie Sage leads listeners on a fantastic journey filled with quirky characters and magykal charms, potions, and spells. Magyk is an original story of lost and rediscovered identities, rich with humor and heart.

"Deliciously spellbinding." (Kirkus Reviews)
I am a huge potter fan, and I enjoyed this story. It is great for kids and wonderful for adults who want to listen to a simple good-hearted story. If you are looking for something that is unpredictable, however, this story is not for you. Many of the plot lines were obvious but it was fun to listen and see how your assumptions will roll out. I would recommend this book.
These are some really ingenious and fun books. There are great plays on words and ideas. Although they are definitely not Harry Potter, they do hold their own in the "boy wizard" category. The narrator does a wonderful job. My friend and I took the first book on a long vacation/road trip and laughed the entire time.
The book was interesting. Sometimes I was a little bored with all the description. It is supposed to a children's book, but I don't know; I got lost sometimes in all the loooong drawn out descriptions. But it was enjoyable and cute!
Allan Corduner is a brilliant narrator. His voicings are spot on and never forced. Magyk is a fun story but it is Corduner's performance that makes this audiobook a wonderful wonderful treat. I was dismayed to discover he did NOT narrate the two sequels. It took awhile to get used to the new narrator. I have started listening to The Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix because Corduner narrates.
I just loved this story. Lively, imaginative characters in a magical land with a timeless message about the importance of family. I stayed up way past my bedtime to hear the last few hours of the story, I was so engrossed by it. Looking forward to the next one. Great fun!
The book was a little slow getting started, but you had a chance to get to know the characters and that's important in a series. I would recommend it to anybody who wants a light listen.
If you love books about magic, discovery, and lands of enchantment, then this is the book for you. I listen to all of the same books my children hear/read, and I found this one fun, original, and throughly enjoyable.
