Peace on Earth, Goodwill to Men…and Gingerbread Men?!
After his harsh beginnings as a rough-and-tumble orphan on the streets of London, Jake Everton takes his rightful place as the long-lost heir of an aristocratic family with magical powers - his personal quest, to follow in his slain parents' footsteps as a Lightrider in the age-old battle of good versus evil. In the fantastical nooks and crannies of the Victorian Age, Jake and his friends (including his pet Gryphon) find no shortage of adventure - righting magic-related wrongs, solving supernatural mysteries, and exploring wondrous new worlds. Now it's Jake's first Christmas with his eccentric magical relatives, but trouble never takes a holiday.…
Santa's Horrid Little Helper
Humbug hates being a Christmas elf. Instead of making toys, he'd rather make mischief. Angling for a new job in Halloween Town, he sets out to prove he's frightful enough for the task by ruining Christmas for as many people as possible - until Jake and his friends capture him. The kids set out on a rip-roaring adventure to the North Pole to hand the troublemaker over to Santa. But the way is fraught with danger, leaving them to wonder if they'll make it back in time for Christmas…or if they'll even make it back alive!

What an awesome Christmas story an instant classic. Definitely going to be a new tradition in my house. A perfect story to read as family to get in the spirit of Christmas.
I am so happy to have reviewed this book as my first Audible book As a big fan of books on CD I was excited. This is a wonderful addition to the series and interesting that it can be read without reading any of the others. The voices are so clever and you can "see" the characters. The humor and storyline are what makes you listen over and over. My favorite thing was that I listened with my 14 year old granddaughter who would Rush home from school and "listen ahead". Then she would call me and tell me to hurry home for the next Installment.
Of course Red and Gladwin are my favorites but Santa was a great new character. The voice of Santa makes you look over your shoulder to see if he is I. The room with you.
I actually loved the yeti scene on the way to the north pole when the sleigh "crew" were all arguing and Red got mad at them. Then the yeti entered the scene. ..
The humor in the whole series always makes me laugh. I love the life lessons the books are teaching.
We will listen to this over and over just to see what we might have missed. I plan to go back and buy the books I have read on Audible books. I love to listen and read along. My granddaughter has grown to love doing this too. Thanks for the opportunity to review this and a big thank you for the introduction to Audible books.
Well I am always a fan of the print copy and that will never change. I've recently started listening to books on tape and the way this is read makes it a richer experience! Plus this is a great way to get the family all cuddled up together to listen and share Christmas memories.
This book has it all! It has great character development, a storyline that is action packed, and I especially like that there is a character for anyone who listens to root for and follow. This is not specifically a book for boys or a book for girls, but for anyone. The story line is clever and definitely keeps you intrigued. I frequently had to drive around the block to not have to wait until the next day to listen!
Jamie's portrayal of Humbug was spot on. The voice and attitude were perfect!
Yes! But it's also a perfect book for doling out over several days in order to keep the fun from ending too soon. And since it's a holiday story, is perfect for the lead up to the holidays.
I have only listed to one or two so far but I enjoyed listening to the reader and all the different voices
I loved the part when they meet Santa and Mrs Clause, since I already read the book I was looking forward to that part of the book.
Santa Claus, he sounded very much like Santa should!
I am not sure but I definitely watch it.
I want to thank the authors of this book for letting me listen to it for a honest review of the audio book. Thanks for the experience.
This is one of the best audio books to which I've listened, and is my second favorite Christmas audio book.
One of the most memorable moments was when Jake discovers why he and the other kids felt so awful after eating the candy and pastries they purchased at Bob's and Marie's establishments.
My favorite scene was the rescue of the gingerbread people.
The book made me laugh in several places.
My 13-year-old daughter listened to this with me. After we finished it, she said, "It was fun and adventurous and it let me use my imagination." She enjoyed it immensely even though she has not read any of the previous books in the series.
This novella (52,000 words = 5.5 hours of audiobook) is a rollicking adventure through Jake's Victorian world in which Fey and Human coexist. My kids had read the other books in the Gryphon Chronicles series but I had not, so I was afraid they would have to explain everything to me. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this story can stand on its own since the authors take a few sentences to fill in the backstory when necessary. There is a little bit for everyone in this book: magic, mystery, star-crossed lovers caught in the middle of a Gingerbread War, an arctic fortress, heroes who must battle monsters. And of course it isn't Christmas without an Elf on a (bakery) shelf, Santa, and a Nativity Pageant. We listened to the first half of the audiobook during a 3 hour car ride; the children complained when we reached our destination because they wanted to hear more (I must admit, so did I.) The narrator has a soothing, pleasant primary voice with some absolutely hilarious character voices for added interest. I would recommend this story for fans of the Harry Potter, Narnia, or Percy Jackson series since there are elements of fantasy and hero quest in the Gryphon Chronicles. It is perfect family or middle school reading for the holiday season but does not need to be confined to Christmas!
Great Action friends
Nice take that is different than the Harry Potter series.
The changes of the voice to match the characters in the book.
When Red was hurt during fight ;scence
I travel a lot! So being able to listen to a good book while waiting in an airport or flying on a plane is a great way to relax!
This is such a fun story and so much action and adventure! I would recommend this to everyone as an annual Christmas story! Not only is there action and adventure, but there is also Christmas spirit throughout the story from Jake's Christmas wish to Humbug's realization of where he really wants to be! Love the story!
There was so much action and adventure in this short story it keeps you completely engaged and ready to turn the next page to see what happens next!
I love how Jake's Christmas wish works out... don't want to spoil it for anyone!
Great annual Christmas story to be read each year! I look forward to reading it again next year!
