Publisher's summary

Jack wakes up in the morning before his 14th birthday to a number of strange things. He's faster, stronger, and Aunt Sophie is crying a lot. On his way to school he runs into a creepy guy with vampire teeth and an ominous message, and before the day is out Mrs. Fitcher, the principal, morphs into a hideous creature with giant bat wings. After a few detours on the way home, Jack arrives to a backyard full of zombies, a houseful of harpies, and oh, by the way, Aunt Sophie has been keeping a few secrets of her own.

Luckily, accomplished monster hunter Eva shows up to clue Jack in on his true identity and teach him how to fight - something he needs to learn quickly since Ren Lucre, the most evil monster in the world, can't wait to kill him. Little does Jack realize that his ancestors were the once-mighty Templar Knights and that he may be the very last of a heroic bloodline. He will discover whether he possesses the bravery to stand up against the monsters...and whether that alone will be enough to survive!

meh

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would absolutely label it a children's book.

What could Jeff Gunhus have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Made it less derivative

Any additional comments?

It was an OK book at best. The performance wasn't bad - considering what there was to work with.

Nice Adventure Story

What did you love best about Jack Templar Monster Hunter?

I liked the twists in the story. I particularly enjoyed Cindy's secret.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I liked it that it turned out happy for the most part and they had a new adventure ahead.

Which character – as performed by Ben Kass – was your favorite?

T Rex. He was portrayed as a real kid--quirks, fears, and all.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was funny. This book reminds me of the Percy Jackson books.

Any additional comments?

These books were written for a younger age group like preteens, but I think even adults would find these books enjoyable.

Last of the Templar's.

A fun adventure for young boys between 8-10, I personally like children's stories and try a new one every once in a while. I managed to get four books from this series for $2 apiece using the Whispersync program. In a way this book reminded me of the Percy Jackson series, but JT has more than just Greek Mythology. I enjoyed this story and will be continue on with the series. The only downfall was that I'm not a fan of the narrator, his voice grated on my nerves. Actual time of story is 4 hours 5 minutes.

Great Book

Read this with my 7 yr old son and we loved it. My son keeps bugging me to get the next in the series. I will definitely buy it next week. If it's as good as the first one, I know we will be in for an adventure.

Great into to urban fantasy for kids

Any additional comments?

This was a great book to start my kids on urban fantasy. It was too scary for my 8yo, but my 6yo and 3yo loved it. (Not sure my 3yo understood everything, but she at least understood some.) My 6yo wanted to keep going back to the car to listen more and has re-listened to it a couple of times since in his room. We'll get the next book for the next car trip.
