Publisher's summary

Nick Gautier's day just keeps getting better and better. Yeah, he survived the zombie attacks, only to wake up and find himself enslaved to a world of shapeshifters and demons out to claim his soul.

His new principal thinks he's even more of a hoodlum than the last one, his coach is trying to recruit him to things he can't even mention and the girl he's not seeing, but is, has secrets that terrify him.

But more than that, he's being groomed by the darkest of powers and if he doesn't learn how to raise the dead by the end of the week, he will become one of them...

Part 2 is a go.

More revelations, more powers and more surprising time twist that explain and confuse everything. I liked this book. If you liked Infinity, you will like this one. This looks like its building to a amazing story for Nick. Plus Nick has a brother? Cool. This book is filled with awesomeness. The only way to be better is if the author had waited for fill three books and released them as one book.

Who will save your soul?

The fate of the world is at stake, and the deciding factor between good and evil rest upon the shoulders of a teenager. Sherrilyn Kenyon's foray into the popular YA genre hits it's stride with the sophomoric release of The Chronicles of Nick series, Invincible. This second effort is definitely better than the first. We pick up where the last book left off, right after Nick and his friends defeat the zombies, and the mortents. Oh, and then there's Kyrian's flashing some fang. But who and what his so called friends and allies are, are not the only obstacles Nick will be facing. The pressure is on for Nick to start mastering his powers, because there's a bounty on his head, and no shortage of demons trying to collect. His love life has gone from not to hot, trying to decide between the girl he's pined for in the past and the one who saw him when no one else did. Nick can't seem to catch a break with a new principal who's even worst than the last one. Gautier can't even put a W in the win column when the new football coach wants him back on the team, since he also has even more devious extra curricular activities to add to Nick's roster. In Nick's world everyone's a player and surrounding yourself with the right people is the key to being a pawn or a king, and by the end someone close to him will be on evil's payroll. His soul is constantly teetering in the balance, as we watch on pins and needles whether the choices he makes now will sway the future.

I found the writing as witty as some of the characters. Kenyon approached this book with a sense of humor and satire that I think really fits her leading man. She really captures an innocence, curiosity, and attitude with Nick that make you want him to succeed. At the same time Invincible was a lot of fun bringing back old characters like Bubba and Mark and adding some new dimensions to them, while introducing new and interesting characters like Grim, Pain, and Suffering. Even when we were in the build up stage at the beginning of the book Kenyon kept us occupied with interesting places and people like the Sanctuary. It's a great vibrant world set in an equally lively and tragic city, that mirrors Nick's character. There isn't a dull moment in the life of Nick and by the end we'll all be rooting for the underdog.

I opted for the audiobook for Invincible, which was excellent. The narrator Holter Graham was wonderful.Graham made the words come to life. He doesn't sound too old, and he captures Nick's personality. I highly recommend the audio version if you get the chance. If not, well you can't go wrong with a great world, wonderful characters, and interesting storylines. The ending will have you wondering what's next and how Nick's going to deal with the relentless revelations.

Just a repeat

If you've read Sherrilyns other dark hunter books, you'll be disapointed as this is taking everthing from them on Nick and putting it in one book, I had hoped it would pick up where his mom died but it doesn't

If you've never read Sherrilys Books and this is your first, you will love it, but for me where I've read all the others, it was a repeate and a disapointment it's everthing that was about Nick in her other books but just put into one.

Great Series

Not that I am knocking SK, because I love the DH series by all means. One of my guilty pleasures. However, I always wanted to hear or read a book written by her minus the sex. There are a lot of writers that are unable to accomplish that feat, but SK knocked it out of the park if you ask me.
I am not a big fan of time travel stories, but she makes this work for me. The story is so rich, snarky, serious and funny that you don't have time to focus on the time travel aspect screwing things up. Again I have time travel issues LOL!!
As with most other SK novels the narration of the story really makes it. The narrator truly gets Nick's snarky, smart ass attitude and does it with style.
My fourteen year old son loves the Nick series, though myself, I feel that there are things he is missing out on because he cannot or likely would not read the DH series. However, he too said he got the book, loved the characters and cannot wait for the next one :)
Kudo's to SK, thank you for sharing Nick's new life with us.

Young Adult Urban Fantasy

I had mixed feelings about the first book in the Chronicles of Nick Series, but was interested enough to keep reading. Am I glad I did!

This book is when the series actually starts to get interesting. The author really starts to flesh out a lot of the characters and you start to learn more about them, and Nick's own fate. Though Nick himself doesn't really see what's going on yet.

This young adult urban fantasy at it's best! This series almost reminds me of Percy Jackson with an evil twist, i.e. the main character is the person who is supposed to destroy the world not save it.

Another Score for Sherrily Kenyon!

If you could sum up Invincible in three words, what would they be?

Suspensful, Surprising, Enjoyable

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nick, his continuing struggle to decide his own fate regardless of what history or others tell him he is or will be is admirable.

Which scene was your favorite?

I think the end. It gave some answers, but left you wanting more.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, if I had the time, I would definately listen all day. But I also did not want it to end, I was very caught up in Nick's world.

Any additional comments?

Higlhly recommend this series, as well as the Dark Hunter Series for Adults.

Fun Young Adult Novel

It's dark but more of a mocha brown than pitch black. The life of a teenager was fun and I could relate. There were unexpected twists and that's rare for me.

Good reader, easy listen.
