Publisher's summary

Imagine it were possible to bring the characters from a book to life. Not like when you listen to an audiobook with such enchantment that the characters seem to jump off the pages and into your bedroom...but for real. Imagine they could actually climb out of the pages and into our world.

Then imagine if those characters brought their world into ours.

This is the story of young Meggie, who lives a quiet life alone with her father Mo, a bookbinder, until one cruel night when Mo reads aloud from Inkheart, and an evil ruler named Capricorn escapes the boundaries of fiction and lands in their living room. Suddenly, Meggie is smack in the middle of the kind of adventure she has only read about in books.

Somehow, Meggie and Mo must learn to harness the magic that conjured up this nightmare. Somehow they must change the course of the story that has changed their lives forever.

This is Inkheart, a timeless tale about books, about imagination, about life.

Great book, amazing narration!

I'm a grown-up who likes to check out what my tween nephews are reading, & really enjoyed this book. It's a lovely story, and I love that books are considered special and even magical. What a great message for young readers! This was interesting & funny enough for an adult to enjoy. The narration is stunningly beautiful. Lynn Redgrave's classically-trained voice is just amazing. It was one of my favorite audiobooks ever, simply for the quality of the narration.

Keeps you interested

This book keeps moving until the very end. it is an exciting listen--the characters are believeable and attach themselves to the reader. Although the ending is a bit disappointing, I would recommend this to pre-teens and adults who like realstic fantasy.

A fun listen

The story kept me wanting to listen for the next moment. The reader was luscious and patient and exciting with her words. It's a fun listen as it is to read.

Madam Elenore

Fantastic performance and composition. The opening music is a bit loud and lengthy, but then the magic of the reader’s voice takes over and opens the enchanted doors. Each performer in the trilogy has their best characters. Lynn Redgrave gave life to Elinor, Dustfinger, and Capricorn. A most enjoyable presentation!

Magical, Enchanting

What a wonderful story full of full-color characters. Lynn Redgrave brings them to life stunningly. I only wish she would have done the sequels. We’ll see how Brendan Fraser does having played the role of Mortimer in the movies.

Fun, clever and brilliantly read

Good story, excellent narration - definitely worth the time. The story itself is fun and engaging and the characters are well written (Dustfinger in particular). Redgrave did such a good job of this book that I'm sorry to see she didn't narrate Inkspell or Inkdeath.

My 7yr old is probably a bit young for it yet, but when he's about 9, I intend to buy a print copy and leave it where he's likely to pick it up... :-)

Great for Children

This was a pleasant read. I kept imagining my daughter listening to it in a few years. She will love it. I enjoyed the listen myself but felt it was a little simple for the storyline and am not compelled to listen to the sequel. The narrator did an excellent job and I will seek out her other reads.
