Publisher's summary

It began with Eragon.... It ends with Inheritance.

Not so very long ago, Eragon-Shadeslayer, Dragon Rider, was nothing more than a poor farm boy, and his dragon, Saphira, only a blue stone in the forest. Now the fate of an entire civilization rests on their shoulders. Long months of training and battle have brought victories and hope, but they have also brought heartbreaking loss. And still, the real battle lies ahead: they must confront Galbatorix. When they do, they will have to be strong enough to defeat him. And if they cannot, no one can. There will be no second chances.

The Rider and his dragon have come further than anyone dared to hope. But can they topple the evil king and restore justice to Alagaësia? And if so, at what cost?

What a boring, predictable load of trollop

Paolini needs to learn how to write. Dialogue is stilted, plot is boring and full of tedious and predictable problems.

If you want good fantasy, try Patrick Rothfuss or Russel Kirkpatrick.

Could Have Been Better

I loved book 1 & 3. Book 2 was OK. This book was also just OK. I felt like Chris just got bored with the story. He could have ended it in several places and just wrote another book which would have been preferable to what he did with this one. There are too many questions left unanswered and he could have done so much more with this story. The ending is just lazy.

Literary marvel, similar to Lord of the Rings

Would you consider the audio edition of Inheritance: The Inheritance Cycle, Book Four, Part One to be better than the print version?

As with Lord of the Rings and similar novels I find the audio edition to be a great companion to reading the novel. I listened and read at the same time. When I could not read I listened.

What other book might you compare Inheritance: The Inheritance Cycle, Book Four, Part One to and why?

I would compare The Inheritance Cycle to the Lord of the Rings. The imagery created by the description was vivid, the style of language suited the time of the novels and the creation of the setting was brilliant.

Any additional comments?

Regarding Gerrard Doyle's performance I can say that his voice suited the style of the novels. I was very disappointed with the voice of Saphira and found Glaedr's annoying for to long.

Great except for

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. But there is a glitch in about the last 15-20 minutes, they repeat the segment after the dwarfs meet them, hope this can be fixed, it mucks up the flow of the ending.

Incredulousness !?

The story is great, but the editing is awful. Since when does a *professional editor* overlook the use of the non-word "incredulousness" when the real word "incredulity" is simpler, well known and a lot less clumsy. The mind boggles!

The narration is, as always, very good, and in many ways covers up the blunders made by the author and his publishing company. The story is pretty exciting, and I can't wait for the conclusion in part 2.

Loved the book, but kept hearing yoda's voice

I have always loved this author and his story telling is amazing/transportive, but I would rather want a better voice for Saphira. I couldn't stop hearing hers as Yoda's voice and that distracted me. The performance was otherwise good and he put in effort with the grub's sounds. Maybe a female voice can be just for Saphira's role...

A childhood favorite

I always find it interesting how preferences differ. Others note that this the last book, and the second book in the cycle are their least favorite, whereas I enjoyed them the most. These have been books that I have grown up with but managed to not grow out of - definitely recommend!

The narrator is a star as usual.

Best series of books ever!

I have listened to the inheritance cycle multiple times and will listen it again and again. There is no better fantasy series out there.
