Publisher's Summary

It's Hiccup's birthday, but that's not going to keep him from getting into trouble. To save his dragon, Toothless, from being banished, Hiccup must sneak into the Meathead Public Library and steal the Viking's most sacred book. But the Vikings see books as a dangerous influence, and keep them locked up and under heavy guard. To save his friend, Hiccup must brave the Hairy Scary Librarian and his dreadful army of Meathead Warriors and face off against the formidable Driller-Dragons. Will he make it out and live to see his next birthday?

What the Critics Say

"David Tennant uses his Scots brogue to full enthusiastic effect as Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third and his Viking and dragon friends brave Driller Dragons, Red Hot Itchyworms, and the Hairy Scary Librarian to steal a book from the forbidden library. Crowell's book is silly, clever fun, and Tennant makes the most of every over-the-top character (Big-Boobied Bertha is a favorite), improbable situation, and funny anachronism. There's even a subversive message about the importance of books and a lesson in translating Dragonese, which Tennant delivers with giggle-inducing gusto. Listeners will be charmed and entertained and will want to seek out the whole series." (AudioFile)

    "Pretty good!"

Not my favorite of the series, but still a good story. My complaint about he performance is because there's some cool processing that goes on, and it only lasts for a very short time, when it could totally last longer! But hey, I'm a sound designer, so it probably won't bother anyone else! Otherwise it's a fun book! Listened to it while I shopped for, made, and ate dinner. Good book!

    "We all die eventually."

Another humorous addition to How to Train your Dragons series. This one is very short but I love the new dragon additions. All the characters are quirky and fun. Recommended not only for children but adults too. Narrator is awesome as usual, I only wish he has read more audiobooks.

    "Delightful"
Where does How to Train Your Dragon: A Hero's Guide to Deadly Dragons rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The narrator & music is excellent. The story is delightful & the characters makes me laugh so hard at times. It is worth the listening to over & over again.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hiccup is so sarcastic & kind hearted & intelligent that he is a character that I greatly enjoy following his story from book to book.

What does David Tennant bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His viking accent & voice inflections & total immersion into narrating this story make the story even more delightful.

    It has many funny moments.

    Any additional comments?

    Read the series.
