Hiccup was a Viking hero - dashing, brave and ever so clever. But even Viking heroes have to begin somewhere. In this riproaring adventure he recounts his early days - when he still had a lot to learn about swordfights, shipwrecks, and homicidal dragons.

David Tennant brings these enthralling stories to life brilliantly! Both my 10 year old and I were captured by this story. The stories are fantastic, but David Tennant makes them a joy to listen to.
David Tennant is an awesome narrator. The story is already fantastic, but he puts such gusto, feeling, and humour into his voice that listening to is a million times better than me reading it. I put it on and curled up at night with my 2 nieces and listened to this. I have never seen them so enthralled by anything before.
It is so funny, the main characters are so likable. An excellent
All of David tennant's performances are awesome. This is just as fantastic as any of them. I hope he continues to narrate more children's stories.
My nieces held their breath and were wide eyed with anticipation about once every chapter.
I would really love to see audible release the Unabridged version. But for now, this abridged version is still fun and perfect for an Aunt's one week visit.
David Tennant is clearly having a ball while narrating this book. His enthusiasm is contagious and my kids absolutely are enthralled with this audiobook. They've listened to it several times in the last month. The story is fun (albeit simplistic) and the characters are memorable. If you enjoyed the first book then by all means get this one as well.
I loved the story. In fact my kids are crazy about the series. The reader was excellent. My only gripe is: why is it abridged? The books are not that long in the first place. I have a problem with abridging books in general, but maybe there are some books with lengthy descriptions or long philosophical and introspective passage ("War and Peace" comes to mind) which could lend themselves to abridging. But abridging this series can only detract from the story. This is why I stopped getting these audiobooks, I realized my children would be better off if they just read the books and got the full story.
Yes it is amazing.
Alvin the treacherous
Get them all. They are well worth it. My 7 year old listens all day.
I like kid books on occasion. Don't get into this one thinking its anything like the movie though. So long as you keep the two separate from each other its enjoyable even for adults. Very cute and adorable as well as a lot of fun.
The story had some good themes. We couldn't wait to find out how Hiccup got out of the next situation and how Toothless helped him.
Toothless is a funny little dragon that just keeps on giving us laughs.
How to train your dragon and How to speak Dragonese. This is a good one.
How to be a Pirate: Full of surprises and delightful!
accents, energy, enthusiasm
Hiccup, he unknowlingly gets himself into messes.
the great accents!
YESSS!!!!!!!!!!! (Mom wouldn't let the boys though; she wanted to stretch it out a bit)!
David Tennant does a GREAT job as narrator. I love toothlesse's voice. I also love Hiccup's point of view on the rest of the hooligans. it's a love hate relationship that's always fun.
Toss up between fishlegs and toothless. Both are terribly pragmatic in otherwise heroic situations. also great voices for the characters.
every character has a distinct voice and everything is done so energetically.
oh laugh. i don't know that it was extreme, but i definitely laughed.
the whole series is really amusing.
This is a charming book, well read by David Tennant. The story is engaging and entertaining, like easy listen in book form.
"Fantastic audio book"
David Tennant does a stellar job bringing the story to life. Even if you are not a kid anymore, Cressida Cowell's tales of Hiccup are so much fun to listen to that it is seriously addictive. Shame though that this is an abridged version.
I bought this originally for my kids, and I (42 years old) ended up enjoying the story the most. David Tennant is brilliant, the story is brilliant.
my whole family loved all these Hiccup books. made long car journeys whizz by and the boys even wanted to continue listening when we got home. David Tennant is a fantastic narrator. We are eagerly awaiting the last two books.
"Another great story"
The introduction of new characters and the little twists in the story.
The introdcution of a really nasty villain! And the narration of course.
David Tennant makes the characters colourful and using different accents for them is brilliant.
Where Hiccup puts his desire for treasure 2nd to the future of the Hooligans. Fab :-)
"made me laugh out loud!"
I realy liked it. If you like other Cressida Cowell books you'll probably like this one.
"As good as Fishlegs' squint"
Another in the series of entertaining and well narrated adventures. David Tennant reads the books with clarity, feeling and humour. The story (like the other ones) is beautifully ridiculous. Cressida Cowell won't win any prizes for well crafted plots or subtle storytelling but she spins a fine yarn about these junior Vikings and their comic ways. My kids (6 and 8) loved it and the older one has since gone on to read the whole series after listening to the first three. Perfect for car family car journeys...
Absolutely great story to read, especially for boys. Whole series by Cressida Cowell is very imaginative, adventures and very funny!!! Audio by David Tennant is superb whole family listen and enjoy … Great for all ages from 5 to 95 years old. Thank you so much!!!
"This book is different from others"
