I bourht this for my grandchildren. I am legally blind. I am unable to read to my babies, this was absolutely perfect for what i wanted it to do. Great narrotor, great music, and good sound effects.
Having grown up listening to Boris Karloff's beautiful narration, Matthau's reading seemed strangely flat. However, the story is still as enjoyable as ever - a timeless classic!
Addicted to Audible since 2009
Not quite as good as the book or movie. While still a fun listen, Walter Mathau's voice isn't as good as one might think or even expect for the character of the Grinch.
While no one could tell this story quite like Boris Karloff, Walter Matthau does a nice job bringing the Grinch to life. My son loves listening to this one.
I too grew up watching this on tv at Christmas and so to hear Walter Matthau narrate it doesn't sound right to me BUT my kids LOVE it. They have listened to it a hundred times I am sure.
Great to put on at bedtime as it is only 12 minutes long.
I just love the story of How the Grinch stole Christmas. I would read it to my grandchildren every Christmas. When I found this one on audible and found out Walter Matthau was the narrator I jumped for joy. Now my grandchildren love his voice reading the story. They said grandma "we love the way you read too " but the narrator sound more like the Grinch. I agree I like his voice too.
I'm a mom. I have drama in my life. I don't want books with the F-bomb, nor graphic violence. I read for fun and to bring my family together. I read for reducing stress levels. We have never had a television in our home and our children are now mid twenties to 19. We listen together and look for belly-wrenching laughter. So what is it like to live without a TV? Awesomely educational and inspirational. Each new book is a marvel.
Seuss is silly, Matthau is comical, together they present a great Christmas story with lots of emotion. I can't think of any other person to read this story. Delightful!
Love listening to audio books at work or on the road.
Yes as it was a great story of my childhood.
and his heart grew 3 sizes... breaks my heart every time seeing him go back to good.
Estate planning lawyer and mom to two boys. My older son liked audiobooks as an infant, and I've listened to a lot since then.
It is certainly a fun one to listen to on audio.
We did listen in one sitting -- it is very short.
The audio isn't the best quality. And of course it is very short -- I wished it had been paired with other Christmas stories.
But I assume most folks know what they are getting with the Grinch, and this recording could save parents of younger children from repeat readings!
