Editorial reviews

A short introduction to the many marriages and divorces of Henry VIII, with an emphasis on how they changed England. Young listeners learn all about Henry's life and various relationships, including the one with the Pope, and are introduced to the concept of the Reformation. The writers here do an excellent job of presenting the material in a matter-of-fact style that is accurate while still being suitable for kids. Performer Todd MacDonald narrates in a slightly sing-song voice that's great for children, with a light Australian accent that seems more charming than distracting.

Pretty superficial

This works for a school child who just needs cursory information on the storied king. Not much else here.

Meant for children

This is a very quick and superficial overview. It quick and all over in just five minutes. It is truly meant to educate children about King Henry VIII. I'd suggest it to help a grade school student for a small book report or paper while reading up with other sources of material about Tudor history.

Fascinating Short Listen

The song, I'm Henry VIII, I Am, ran through my head as I got ready to listen to this (Herman's Hermits) 😂 So you can guess my age easily 🤣 The arrogant king, who was married six times, is remembered for separating the Church of England from the Catholic Church and being quite the philanderer, fathering several children out of wedlock, only one of whom he recognized. He had two of his wives beheaded. 😲 Henry father who was very frugal, left his son a fortune. However, Henry VIII mismanaged the treasury, spending lavishly on his own household, weakening the English economy.

Too little info for a very well known person

The narrator did a good job reading this very short story; I just think their could have been more information about King Henry VIII and not just how he created three children who ruled themselves later on in life. You would think there would be more about the King himself not just who he fathered.

Not worth listening

Listened to this audio book assumed Henry VIII was some noteworthy king, however, he is just one of the kings whose life seemed to have been all about multiple marriages! Not sure why iMinds would painstakingly make an audio book out of such king! Not worth listening to!
