This is a great story to get acquainted with the Famous Five series.
Insightful characterisations, believable storyline, skilfully performed by Jan Francis.
Don't be put off by the one voice doing all of the characters. More professional
and enjoyable to listen to than the use of various child voices used in the dramatisations.
May take a few minutes to get used to the voices, but once you do, you're on your way.
I have always loved the Famous Five series. Safe, fun, action (and food) filled adventures for kids! Jan Francis is an excellent narrator, not only giving each character a distinct voice, but acting and performing throughout. Highly recommended.
"Great family listening"
I read some of the famous five books when I was young, so decided to buy this to introduce my children to something that I had enjoyed. It went down better than I expected, the story really hasn’t dated much at all, and both of my kids loved it and are now looking forward to book 2 on our next long car journey.
Kids (& I) loved it! Lasted SEVERAL car journeys as well! Bring on the next
Bought this for my sons. I enjoyed it more than them because of the memories it brought back when I used to read it as a kid myself.
"TERRIBLE. DO NOT BUY IT"
DONT BUY IT ITS IS TERRIBLE SPENT YOUR MONEY ON SOMETHING BETTER. Like a hammer
"My 6 year old loves it!"
very well read. engaging and exciting. really captures the imagination. others in series are also high quality.
"great book for you"
Love the rescue dick makes very well planed.I recommend for all ages great story and I love it. Read now
My mum used to read this to my sister and me. Bit problematic re gender etc in 2016 but can be forgiven considering time period. Really relaxing and comforting to go to sleep to even two decades later!
Listened to this in the car on a couple of relatively long journeys. Trying to wean two small boys (5 and 7) off iPads and into books - and the ones we used to read when we were kids.
Worked brilliantly. At the end of the long journey tonight had to run upstairs and lie in bed together until it was finished.
Eldest now wants me to buy him the book.
"A classic from my child hood -"
A trip down memory lane, and I was not disappointed. Easy listening. A delight and such a treat to have it read to me this time.. Thanks
"Five go to mystery moor"
I loved the book
I like how there's always a mystery
I didn't like how it take 's a while to get to the mystery
