Funny and moving, wise as well as uplifting, Fairest represents New York Times best-selling author Gail Carson Levine at her finest.
Composer-director Todd Hobin has crafted melodies for all the story's lyrics and songs, resulting in a unique listening experience - an audiobook that has as much original music as a Broadway show!

"Readers will enjoy the fairy-tale setting while identifying with the real-life problems of living in an appearance-obsessed society." (School Library Journal)
I love clean books of all sorts. Love mysteries, fantasies epic to kids stories, fairy tales, romances, humor, and historical fiction
I have a new favorite fairytale novel! I so loved this book. I need to clarify that I am a musician. I think music is indispensable. I've sung and played musical instruments my whole life. I love musicals, operettas, and opera. This audio version is definitely a musical and is really an operetta in many places. This book tells a story of a land that relies heavily on music as art, entertainment, achievement, tradition and base of belief. They use it in everything from cooking and cleaning to royal ceremony. They have included many songs and all the musical passages are sung. The characters are well-drawn and full. I cared so much about them and that it all came out right . I cried with tears down my cheeks at the end. It is definitely good and made much better by the full-cast audio recording. I thought it was lovely. It has made my whole week and I will definitely visit this new friend again. If you love musicals and fairytales you won't want to miss this wonderful story.
A creative fair tale that combines song and story. Listening to this book presents it in a unique interesting way. Story of a plain commoner and her struggle in life until happenstance and her unique gift lead to a fairy tale ending. Great story for middle grades and above.
This fantastic story is wonderfully told with brilliant music that stays true to the author's voice and tone.
Very well done.
This was my first Full Cast Audio presentation. I found their work with Fairest to be very charming and brought full life to the book. The songs were well orchestrated and performed. As a reader who usually skips songs in a book, I found it so much easier to sense what the author wanted when hearing the songs set to music..
I had previously read the book's paperback version. I felt this was a unique and intriguing look at the Snow White story. Levine has a great way of bringing fairy tales to life in new ways. She has succeeded once more with Snow White. The characters, even those who are little seen in the story, are rich and dynamic, adding to the over arching story line. The moral of the story is very common, and rather obvious. However, this is book for young teens, and I can support the main lesson Levine weaves through the book.
Overall, I adore this book and have already recommended it to other people. Now I'll just have to make sure everyone knows how much I like the audio version.
Yes. I enjoyed being pulled into a written (read) fairy tale where people randomly burst into into song,
My favorite character was zhamM. He really was a gentleman, and so sweet and kind and wise for a nonhuman character such as a gnome while not being pulled into a caricature of a character. He was fun to hear too, to be exact.
Aza of course. She really had a wonderful voice. Some of her songs got stuck in my head.
Oddly enough I really enjoyed the wedding. It wrapped things up beautifully..
I almost didn't get the book because of all the reviews that complained about the singing, but I'm glad I got it anyway. I don't think the audiobook would have been the same without it. It's a world based on music. There really is no other proper way to do it but sing the lines. I enjoyed it immensely.
This was a cute story but somewhat predictable. I am not sure it is one I would recommend listening to. It requires a lot of singing in different voices and it is not extremely enjoyable to listen to the singing.
This audiobook has lots of singing, so it is a great listen. I encourage her to read and listen to books like this to develop different kinds of comprehension skills. It also helps to get a narrator's voice in her mind, so that when she reads it on her own, she can match the rhythm and character voices.
My daughter loved the story, the production values and the singing.
Yes but I liked this too
Ella Enchanted because they're both equally good
this book just makes me really happy and satisfied every time I read/listen to it
I work in sales for a cellphone company and so obviously love technology. I couldn't function without my Audible apps on my phones!!
There is a lot of singing... kinda annoying. But if you are into that sort of thing you might enjoy it. Just not my thing.
