Publisher's summary

Firedrake, a young dragon, receives a frightening warning one night: Humans are planning to destroy the valley in which he lives! All the dragons must flee. Their only refuge is a place above the clouds called the Rim of Heaven - which may not even exist.

Firedrake boldly volunteers to go ahead first. As he embarks on his journey, he meets Ben, a runaway boy. Together, the boy and dragon make their way toward the Rim of Heaven, all the while running a step ahead of Nettlebrand, a monster who will stop at nothing to hunt down Firedrake. Their quest will truly become an adventure like no other.

Book is interesting, narrator is annoying

I love Cornelia Funke’s books. Loved Inkheart, but Inkspell was ruined by Brendan Fraser’s narration. His exaggerated voices really grate on my nerves! Maybe if you are 4 or 5 years old, you will enjoy it. After that, the shouting, shrieking, snoring and grunting almost ruin the book. It’s a shame. I’m sorry I didn’t notice that he was the narrator.

The story is engaging and imaginative. I really love Funke’s books. But better to read this one on paper.

Great voices

The book was interesting and well performed.I was really able to get into the different characters, especially since they were all presented with different voices.

Great Fantasy book

Really good book, a friend if mine recommend it to me years ago and I kept putting it off until now. Take my advice and don't wait, great book for a young adult or a adult. Great narration, great story, and heartwarming.

Brendan Fraser is absolute perfection!

Fraser's speaking voice is so soothing and sweet, then he begins to add in all the character voices.....AMAZING! We listen to this story over and over.

Best narration of a story I've ever heard

This is a wonderful story of a boy, a dragon, a brownie and a journey. As always Cornelia Funke writes in a way that opens your eyes to new worlds. Personally, I find Dragon Rider to be her very best writing. It is rare to find a story that balances great adventure without too much darkness to scare younger readers. Yet even teenagers and adults will find themselves drawn in and happy to count Ben, Firedrake and Sorrel among their friends. It is the vivid narration by Brendan Fraser that causes you to SEE the story in full color. This is not a story to be missed.
