The new jaw-achingly funny novel from David Walliams, the number-one best-selling author! Make your appointment if you dare…. Darkness had come to the town. Strange things were happening in the dead of night. Children would put a tooth under their pillow for the tooth fairy, but in the morning they would wake up to find… a dead slug; a live spider; hundreds of earwigs creeping and crawling beneath their pillow. Evil was at work. But who or what was behind it…? Listen to this book and find out!

Praise for David Walliams:"A pleasure to read. A beguilingly funny, original and thought-provoking tale… hilarious" (Amanda Craig, The Times)
My 9 yo son and I have recently discovered David Walliams, and we've very quickly become huge fans. Demon Dentist is the most far-fetched (of a fairly far-fetched set), and we loved it. My son laughed hysterically at many points throughout the story, and frequently imitates the humor and voices himself. David Walliams' performance is first-rate with wonderful voices for all the characters. He's done a marvelous job creating thoughtful and thoroughly entertaining stories for children (of all ages).
"A few cautions for parents of younger listeners"
No - but I would have appreciated knowing a bit more about it before we listened as a family
Better for children 9/10+
Fun, fun, fun
I've not read any other reviews of this book which forewarn listeners that the story of the tooth fairy may come up for rather more scrutiny than some might be ready for. The magic is reinstated but there's a wobble or two along the way - and I'm not just talking about wobbly teeth.
We listened in a car journey with children 5 and 8 - as a family we're huge fans of the various David Walliams audiobooks so were excited to listen to this one too. I'm not sure the children enjoyed it quite so much as others, and this is the first we've heard where DW does not do ALL the voices (Raj sounds a bit different in this one!). Some of the story is a bit dark and cranks up the scary atmosphere - parents, be aware and ready to provide reassurance (see first point on this also)
All in all - enjoyable but not our favourite of the DW books.
Not read print version, so no idea.
Only for children aged 9 or over, and not of a nervous disposition!
Very very dark. We didn't find it as funny as the previous books. I find it amusing that reviews I read before buying, only warned of the disclosure that the tooth fairy is not real. Presumably these people think that the main character having all their teeth removed without anaesthetic, and then later being dangled over a vat of acid designed to strip the flesh from their bones is OK? My 9 year old children found it quite disturbing, and went decidedly pale at times. That being said, they didn't want to turn it off........
"Really really great, but a bit creepy - my niece, aged 8"
A fun story with a heart. My niece really enjoyed listening to this in a couple of sessions when off sick and after school. Walliams really goes for it and brings the characters to life. There's a serious side to the story too, as well as lots of jokes and nuttiness. She liked the made up words too!
"My favourite character is Alfie!"
Billionaire Boy. It is similar because it made me laugh as much as Demon Dentist.
I liked Raj's accent.
I think you will enjoy it because when David Walliams tells the story he uses adjectives and connectives.
Really good narration I love the way the voices are acted great for all the family
I am in my forties and I love David walliams book Demon Dentist I didn't want the book to end I love the made up words. This actor and author has cheered me up when I have felt down he is also great as the narrator.watch out everyone andguard your teeth.I am now going to listen to awful auntie to see if she is worse than one of mine.I would say this book is suitable for children from around eight to one hundred .You will probably never see this Mr Walliams but if you do thank you and I hope you continue for many years to come.
"funny and gripping"
loved it, funny and gripping but some of the storyline was abit loopy but that's David Walliams for you the performance was amazing and I loved all the voices
"A devilishly demon tale by the new Roald Dahl."
simply captivating by the masterful Walliams who has taken the mantle of great children's tales.
