Critic reviews

"Dahl's phenomenal popularity among children speaks for his breathless storytelling charms." (Publishers Weekly)

“Roald Dahl sometimes shared a tonal kinship with Ogden Nash, and he could demonstrate a verbal inventiveness nearly Seussian...[His] stories work better in audio than in print.” (The New York Times)

Storyline Is Terrible

The book narrator was amazing and was the main reason I bought the second Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book. I'm sad because the storyline was simply terrible. It didn't make sense and was all over the place. Very disappointed.

I don’t remember the story being quite this stupid

It’s well performed, but the story just doesn’t have any of the magic or sweetness that the original Charlie and the chocolate factory had. After the first book you want to know about Charlie learning about the chocolate factory and instead he goes up into space and you spend the whole time getting to know his insanely dysfunctional Grandparents rather than having it be about him.

Blah blah blah

This book was such a let down. I've loved so many Roald Dahl books, but this was just disappointing. Boring...

Bizarre

I knew nothing about this book, except that the story follows Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which my family LOVES! This story goes from aliens in outer space, to grandparents turning into babies. It was just way too bizarre and weird. I only gave it a couple stars because the performance was good even though the story wasn’t.

Without direction or maybe pointless? I’m confused.

Why was this book a continuation of the Willy wonka story? It really had very little to do with the previous story. It does not move the characters forward. Moreover it has very little purpose at all. The whole book can be over looked and you won’t miss much that matters. It was amusing in a surreal acid trip kind of arc but no pay off makes you feel pointless and used. Originally it sounded entertaining but in the end I would have skipped this story.

Second book

Afew funny poems and songs. In the end there's a reason what those people don't know about the second Charlie Potts book.
