Love the series but not this one!

I'm an avid reader of fantasy and "magic books", and have enjoyed the Charlie Bone series. This one, however, isn't written nearly as well as the others - the plot is hard to figure out and wanders, and too much of the dialogue is pointless. Still, I'll eagerly await the next one and hope for the best!

Good

I have listened to all of the books now with my 8 year old. This one seems to have been a little harder to follow. There were times that I felt like I had missed something altogether, but in the end understood most of it.

Definately a must listen.

Disappointing ending

I loved this series of books but so far this was the worst. The story was convoluted and not as well written as the others but still not bad. The ending was simply abrupt. I was a bit confused as to why it ended as it did but it was still good.

Enjoyed “The Hidden King”

I enjoyed this book. Jenny Nimmo did not disappoint with this book. I like the development of new characters and how the storyline all links together with what has happened thus far.
Simon Russell Beale DID NOT disappoint in his narration! I enjoy his use of voices and inflection. Looking forward to the next book!

So much at stake on spurned love

CB's father - missing and to blame for the whole mess, so we are told, but noone is smart enough to figure out who he is. And the mess is so much bigger than missing pets and the intrigue of a single school. Charlie’s world continues to grow - last book it was a new castle; this time a wild forest safe house for animals (Pooh?) and even other schools for the endowed (like Tri Wizard's Cup?). The naive venture with a strange girl could have turned out so many ways - he's old enough to begin to wonder about girls. The theme of mental density continues as Bleurs can’t guess who has newly discovered their endowment. But I have my own questions. Why are characters like CB and HP so prone to telling lies to adults and teachers (Dolores U. was partly right)? Why are teachers in British boarding schools so prone to in-your-face fits of outrage and unaccountable autocratic punishments? This UK school phenomenon is getting a bit wearying - maybe it’s time for a new manga carta (spell checkers do output occasional wit).

Great continuation!

This is one of the best in the series. It ties up some loose ends, and Charlie and his friends are involved in some real heroics. Several interesting new characters. My sons were sorry it ended and are impatiently waiting for the next installment!

Charlie Bone and The Hidden King

I have been reading this series since book one. And find it be very adventurous. And am engroused with every new book to the series. Each Charcter is just so enjoyable. Even some of it's villians. And even though I love Harry Potter. This collection of books gives it a run for it's money. But what I enjoy is that it doesn't have some of the really heavy moments of Harry Potter. And so far none of the charcters I have grown to love and have yet to meet their untimely end. Which I like sometimes it's good when few of the good guys are killed off. And it's a hasn't any of it's excitement.
So if you never read the series give it ago. You will be emeroused in the world of Charlie Bone
