Brer Rabbit and the Wonderful Tar Baby

Sassy, sassier, sassiest! That Brer Rabbit was the back sassiest critter in 10 counties and it got so Brer Fox just couldn't bear it another second. So he stirred himself up a sticky, gooey Tar Baby and left it on a log for Brer Rabbit to run smack into. Chuckle through all the whimsical fun, as Brer Rabbit finally outsmarts his wily nemesis. This comic American adventure is one of the world's best loved folktales.

    "All in all, excellent"

Danny Glover is exceptional. His accent/dialect and phrasing are perfectly matched to the telling, adding personality to the characters and their story without being "too much" (I am thinking especially of a very young listener such as my 3-yr-old). His pace is a bit slower than others, but I felt it worked very well for this story and, again, young ears.
While Taj Mahal's music was also a good match, I felt it got in the way of the telling a little bit. To my ears it always felt too "out front" punctuating rather than supporting the story. However the playing is marvelous and I liked the variety of instruments.
    All in all, excellent.

p.s. These are very much first impressions, as my review is based on a single listen.

    "Brer Rabbit vs. Brer Fox!"

“Brer Rabbit and the Wonderful Tar Baby” is another of Danny Glover’s most promising performances as he uses a southern accent to narrate this story. Danny Glover narrates with such coolness that it makes this story worth listening to, especially during the nighttime. Also, Taj Mahal’s music greatly enhances this story as he mainly uses a guitar to create music for the story. I would recommend this audiobook to children of all ages for its effective storytelling from Danny Glover and soulful music from Taj Mahal.
