But beginning with the stormy journey and his first contact with the native people, he realizes that the New World is nothing like he imagined. The lush Virginia shore where they establish the colony of James Town is both beautiful and forbidding, and it's hard to know who's a friend or foe. As he learns the language of the Algonquian Indians and observes Captain Smith's wise diplomacy, Samuel begins to see that he can be whoever he wants to be in this new land.

I absolutely love good historical fiction for young people. This story is accurate and entertaining. I enjoyed it very much, but even more so, the kids were pulled in and mesmerized. The characters are lively and interesting. The historical details are present, and presented in a fun story without anything boring. A young person will learn so much more about Jamestown, and retain what they have learned, by hearing this instead of only a dry textbook with dates and facts. History really comes to life in this book. I recommend it for anyone studying this time period to really enhance required textbook reading. The narrator does an outstanding job. It sounds as if there are several different voices throughout. Superb!
I love history. James town is my favorite history um......... story? I love studying james town so this is my favorite book, I have it on paper back to! Love the book! Have a nice day the people reading this!😊 it is so incredibly good. It drags me in to the book! My teacher said all teachers need to do a study on this!
Homeschooling mama, I love audio books! There isn't enough, time in the day to read all I want to my kiddos and still get things done.
It describes this young boy stabbing people and beating a little girl to death. Also there is numerous scenes of graphic taco rape!!
There are violent descriptions of people eating innocent food. Not to mention all those poor young enchiladas being sacrificed to the god they call MESTHIGAHHJÎÆTÜÜ.
I've used this historical fiction account of early Jamestown with my 5th gd classes for two years. It is very well researched & written-I love that each chapter begins with a primary source summary of actual events. My students become completely engaged in the action-packed story & I can integrate history & language arts. The audio version is great-talented actor. Highly recommend it for anyone wanting an entertaining account of Jamestown.
I am an English teacher and I often purhcase audio books for books we are reading in class. I purhcased this one, and I can not play it at my school because my school wil not allow me to download audible's software. I have purchased audio books all my life and nevr had this problem before.
The tech people tell me this is to protect from unauthorized copying. Well, they have stopped authorized purchasing. I can not use this book for the purpose I need. I do not need to listen to it at home, I need to play it at school to aid in students reading comprehension.
