Publisher's summary

The free-spirited Anne Shirley has a beautiful way of looking at the world and touching our hearts. In this, the third volume of the Anne of Green Gables series, the irrepressible Anne dreams of the woman she hopes to be when she decides to leave Green Gables and her beloved Prince Edward Island for college. She is eager for new adventure. But now she faces difficult choices involving her secret aspirations to be a writer and her hopes of finding the right person to marry. Homesickness and a grumpy old math professor cause Anne to doubt she should be a Redmond College coed, even though her old friends Gilbert Blythe and Priscilla Grant are there to share the challenges and surprises. And when Anne is the recipient of unexpected marriage proposals from the most unlikely men, she may shock friends and Islanders alike with her decision.

Sweet Historical Romance

Sweet Historical Romance

Such wisdom in these young college students, yet folly and joy abound! A delightful story! I especially loved the young boy's escapade skipping church and his repentant confession to Anne, and the happy ever after ending!!

The narration was wonderfully talented, but in the silence between speaking you can hear a lot of background noise.

The audio is horrible

It almost sounds like the old days when we would record over a tape and you could hear the previous recording in the background. It is so distracting and pretty much ruin the book.

Anne is like watching an old favorite movie

Anne is just so lovely and so are her adventures. It's nice to follow her as she grows up and it's great to see this character evolve, but there's always a core of the precocious little girl that she started as in the first book.

Has some background noise but still a good listen

I had seen some negative reviews on this version of Anne of the Island, so I thought I would say a few words about it. Several reviewers spoke of a poor recording quality and background noise, possibly people talking in the background as well. This book was included in our Audible membership so I thought I'd give it a shot. It's not the best recording in that it's not as crystal clear as others I've listened to, and the background noise or talking seems to be a faint echo of the narration. (This is my reasoning for 4 stars.) While it was noticeable, I found it only mildly distracting, and my daughter and I were able to enjoy the book (which we did immensely). If it was intolerable for others previously, I believe it's possible that, since then, the sound quality has been improved. Either way, I'd say give it a try, we were not disappointed!

A wonderful story

The story has long been known, and loved. Anne comes to life with this fantastic narration.

An excellent story but audio had an echo

I adore all the Anne books and this is no different. my only issue is that the audio had some background echo. I thought it was my device at first but it was not. It became very distracting at times.
otherwise the reading by Susan O'Malley was very good. She does not overdo characters but gives them enough change to bring them to life. I quite enjoyed her reading.

Great Book!!! Slightly annoying narrator.

WARNING SPOILER INSIDE!!!!!
This is my favorite Anne of Green Gables book. I mean, this is the one Anne and Gilbert finally get engaged!! 💍 (You have to wait so long, I know. I think I first saw it coming when you meet Gilbert I the first one.)

The narrator is almost expressionless, but it doesn't bother me too much. You should try it narrated by Barbara Caruso. She does a fabulous job.

Overall, great book!! 😁🥰😘🤗😎🥳😋😍😉
