Sweetest Story Ever

Anne Shirley is one of the most endearing characters ever written. Her sweet optimism is so pure and refreshing in the ever darkening world we live in. The Green Gables story is full of goodness and friendship, love and true kindness. Montgomery expertly paints a lush landscape of tender beauty in every page. I've always loved the 1985 movie version with Megan Follows and can't wait to read this darling book to my children before we watch it together.

My favorite book narrated/read mostly well

A beautiful book, one of my very favorites (which of course makes me a bit biased by my imagination, so be sure to take that into consideration.)

The narrators accent and voice were perfect for the story, I couldn't stand the accents of several other narrators, but this accent sounded fitting, which makes it so much easier to get into the story. There are a few mispronunciations and mistakes, but that could be expected from such an affordable edition. However other than that, of you don't catch the little mistakes, it really is such an enjoyable performance. Definitely worth purchasing considering the price.

That being said, the narrator doesn't give much distinction to each characters voice, so on occasion it's a little challenging to understand who's speaking. This only happens occasionally, however. Lastly Anne (and a few other characters, on occasion) is a little forced. It's a little rigid, and more aggressive then you'd imagine. The narrator almost sounds stressed, and this often gives characters a clipped, less comfortable air, which is unfortunate considering the much treasured, homey comfort of the story.

I loved the first two movies and know that the books are always said to be better but just couldn't get time to pick them up and begin. Mary Sarah brought Anne to life beautifully, and I love that I don't have to set aside time to visit Avonlea. I can listen as I'm cooking, cleaning, driving or nodding off to sleep.
