Publisher's summary

The definitive edition.

Discovered in the attic in which she spent the last years of her life, Anne Frank’s remarkable diary has since become a world classic - a powerful reminder of the horrors of war and an eloquent testament to the human spirit.

In 1942, with Nazis occupying Holland, a 13-year-old Jewish girl and her family fled their home in Amsterdam and went into hiding. For the next two years, until their whereabouts were betrayed to the Gestapo, they and another family lived cloistered in the “Secret Annex” of an old office building. Cut off from the outside world, they faced hunger, boredom, the constant cruelties of living in confined quarters, and the ever-present threat of discovery and death. In her diary Anne Frank recorded vivid impressions of her experiences during this period. By turns thoughtful, moving, and amusing, her account offers a fascinating commentary on human courage and frailty and a compelling self-portrait of a sensitive and spirited young woman whose promise was tragically cut short.

Critic reviews

"The new edition reveals a new depth to Anne's dreams, irritations, hardship, and passions....There may be no better way to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II than to reread

The Diary of a Young Girl, a testament to an indestructive nobility of spirit in the face of pure evil." (Chicago Tribune)

“The single most compelling personal account of the Holocaust...remains astonishing and excruciating.” (The New York Times Book Review)

Wonderful & beautiful.

I loved hearing the thoughts of this young girl who was struggling through adolescence and war to become a young lady. I believe she was placed in that time and place to give us a different view of the war & how it affected 'normal, everyday' people. Her writing is intelligent and beautiful and as a clear look into her soul. I have already recommended it to several friends.

Such a bright light!

I did not know what to expect. Such a vivid person was Anne, and her diary is wonderfully narrated here. What a treasure to cherish her words, and such a heart wrenching end. Her words are like a beautiful flower growing despite the ugliness and tragedy of evil.

The life a Jewish girl in the of worst times

Great listen, at times I felt like I was listening to a regular teen agers writings. However, as I ended the book I was overcome with sadness and got teary eyed. Historically one of the worst tradedies of recent times, so thankful we have this diary to help us all learn about Anne's life, her family and the Jewish people. I still have so many questions, where did the dad find the book? does he have other books? Did he do any interviews?

Worth the read

This is a very humbling audiobook. I laughed a lot in the beginning because Anne is incredibly relatable and reminded me of being that young. I cried in other parts, trying to put myself in her and all of the other characters place. It is a book everyone should read over the age of 15.

Wow

An incredible story that highlights the losses that come from evil in this world. Just another reminder of the waste of human life that can come from evil politicians. At the same time showing how the power of a positive attitude can help people enjoy life in the most dire circumstances.

I found a friend who's life seems to run parallel

ann frank was and always will an amazing woman; a picture of strength, conviction, and originality. An woman who speaks her mind. an individual who doesn't conform. She was smarter than she realized.

Heartbreaking yet beautiful

Selma Blair’s narration is just perfect. She could not have done a better job. I really enjoyed listening to the book.

I am also greatly in awe of Anne Frank - the young girl’s acute thinking and observations are spectacular. She was such a brilliant kid. It breaks my heart that she could not survive the war.
