Publisher's Summary

Amos Fortune was born the son of an African king. In 1725, when he was 15 years old, he was captured by slave traders, brought to America and sold at auction. For 45 years, Amos worked as a slave and dreamed of freedom. At 60, he began to see those dreams come true.

Beautifully narrated.... Touching and thought provoking story for adults as well as children. American History teachers should incorporate this into their curriculum.

What did you love best about Amos Fortune, Free Man?

My kids and I listened started reading the book for my daughters co-op assignment. We went out of town and forgot the book so we purchased it on audible. It was honestly awesome! We loved listening to it in the car, I was able to pause it and immediately ask questions/discuss and really dig deeper into the meaning of the story- in fact we just purchased the next story she need to read for her co-op as well.

    "Excellently written, excellently read!"

This is an amazing take on a despicable age in American history. In many respects it's a terrible story, yet it's told in a way that engages and enlightens the reader/listener about the humility and grace that can be called upon to rise above one's circumstances. Beautifully written and beautifully read!

    "Where's the action?"

I was exited at the beginning when, well, I won't spoil it, but after that, I soon realized: IT WAS NOTHING BUT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!!!!!
Everything was flat and boring, I slept halfway through it. The only reason I finished it was because I was hoping for at least some action, but no, it was just going through the life of the character, and that is why I gave such low rating...😡
