Publisher's summary

Motivated by her love for the game and inspired by the legendary Jackie Robinson, Mamie Johnson is determined to be a professional baseball pitcher. But in a sport that's determined by white men, there is no place for a black woman. Mamie doesn't give up - from the time she insists on trying out for the all-male, all-white Police Athletic League until she realizes her dream and becomes one of three women to play in the Negro Leagues. Mamie Johnson's life shows that with courage and perseverance one can overcome even the greatest challenges.

Wow!

I used to think that a woman would never succeed as a major league player but I've changed my mind. With a record of 33-8 why not?

Mamie, Toni and Connie: Mkaing Herstory...

Nice Read. I wish there was more information about these great African (and all) American pioneers.

Great Read for school aged students

I really enjoyed reading this book with my class. They were interested in learning about a different side of baseball. This book also empowered my girl students to believe that they could accomplish anything if they have the right mindset.
